whats australia like?

hey im from US and wanted to know what the weather was like in the winter. is it possible to go during your winter and have dry hot days on the beach and do basic tourism type stuff, and also hit up the slopes on other days? or is it pretty wet and miserable for touristy things?

 
okay well firstly the snow is too far from the beach to go in the same day. but you can go to the beach if u go up to queensland, but there is no snow.

if you come towards the end of our season it will be a bit nicer outside

is there a way i could get nice weather and stay near a beach and then say drive 3 hours to a good mountain with a nice park the next day? If not is it worth it to go during winter to experience the countries wildlife and beaches and do touristy things, or is it better to go during december for that kind of stuff?

 
You can surf and ski in the same day .Jindabyne(the base town for 2 good resorts) is about 3 hrs away from really good southcoast beaches..... the weather is fine in winter but the water is cold!!

 
yer i live on the south coast and i've surfed sk8ed and skiied all in the same day. jindy is 2hrs away from my house and beach is 5mins away

 
weve got 5 resorts in aus thredbo and perisha are next to each otha wif perisha havin tha best park tha drive is about 3-4 hours outa sydney then there is bulla, falls, and hotham wich are great resorts wif good parks and pow if u come at tha right time. but these resorts are in south australia.

 
^ I think you mean in Victoria, here in SA we got no snow at all, we got to do the 10 hour drive over to Vic. We did have the Snowdoem (aka Mt Thebarton), an indoor artificial ski slope, but thats now closed down.

yeah but whenever it is cold enough for good snow, it would be really cold in the water off the south coast.

i would suggest spending time in sydney where all the big tourist stuff is, then going to perisher blue and thredders (the biggest and best resort in aus hands down) for a bit, and then towards the end hit up the gold coast. if u go to gold coast during australian summer its the wet season, which means itl be really fucking humid

if u want my advice dont waste ur time with perisher, only go to thredbo whihc is the only real ski resort in australia. and yeh u can go to the beach but it may be a little cold

 
Does Thredbo have a good park? I'm looking at coming down this summer to teach skiing, but i want to go to a hill with a park...?

falls has got a sweet park but shit teran but u can ski hotham on the same pass so u just go to hotham for teran it got the best in oz so fuk yer

thredbo park is awesome this season.. perisher was lacking last time i was there, only the small rail park was open, and no rails there, only boxes

Australia sux! Stuff all shit wet snow, small parks, no one knows how to build a park, rails that look like they've been flogged from a construction site, stuff all steeps and if you manage to find any they're short as shit. I only ski in Aus cos otherwise I would have to wait 12 months for the northern winter. If you come to Oz, go to the coast, namely Surfers, if you wanna ski, go to NZ.

CCT - fuck off mate! I'm aussie you fuckwit! We a wog if that. Face it, it's good to be able to ski in Oz, but we lack the terrain, the parks, the hieghts, the snow, the lot. You just need to look as far Hotham 2 days ago, 100mm rain. If you like rain-plagued snow, be my guest, come ski in australia. Otherwise just come here for the surf and fly to christchurch. Its cheap enough for us to get there from Oz now.

australia rules, hot chicks, sunshine, best surf in the world, sick fishing, good night life, skiing, what else would you want. Once you leave the country for a while then you realize how good australia is compared to the rest of the world.
