What would make a good president?

I'm going to start this off by saying i know very little about politics, and i'm canadian. Most of my knowledge of american politics comes from the daily show, so basically i hear about it when politicians do funny things. I like to say i support Obama, but it's not really based on anything, i just don't like don't like most conservatives.
So, i've read a lot of political shitstorm threads with a hell of a lot of hating on Obama. Maybe he deserves it, maybe he doesn't, again, i have no clue. But i want to know what all these people calling obama a shitty president think a good president would be doing if they were in charge of these 4 years? because i'm pretty sure that it would take some sort of wizard to please everybody with the all of the shit that the states is stuck in right now.

Politicians that actually listen to the people that vote for them, aren't lying scumbags, and are willing to have a open discussion on everything.

Basically, everything Obama PROMISED to be during the Primaries and General Election.

now see, this is why i'm so confused. People keep calling him a lying scumbag, but no one tells me why. why is he such a lying scumbag?

Troops will be removed from the Middle East and I won't send anymore. What does he do? Approve of a surge all of his own.

The other big one is him saying the new Healthcare system won't raise taxes yet the US has NO money to pay for it if we don't. And then the wording of "there is no punishment for not having health insurance" but it says in the Bill if you don't want the Government one and don't have your own you have a fine to pay.

And my original post wasn't so much directed at Obama but more so at everyone involved in the government of the US.

He fucked up.
Basically you don't change the voting system to get one bill passed, which is a good way to commit political suicide. We used to have to have a 60% majority in the senate to get a bill passed. He managed to get it changed to 50% a few days before the vote on the bill.
(IMO the 60% makes it so half the country cant say LoL ok peace im out)
The bill was also rushed and fucks me over. Sure I can stay on my parent's health insurance until i'm 26, but I have to pay for worthless sacks of shit that don't do anything for society to get taken care of.

Theres also a provision in it i believe that the more $ your parents make as a college student, the less loans you can take out. This is bullshit. I am a dependant, but I am also a legal adult. Shouldn't my loans be between me and the bank? why does the government have to tell me I can't take loans out for MY education that I will be able to pay back. This last part is just here-say, I haven't actually seen it

what would make a good president you ask???? We need another Ronald Reagan is what we need

reagan.jpg

Reaganomics is what we need....
  1. Reduce government spending,
  2. Reduce income and capital gains marginal tax rates,
  3. Reduce government regulation of the economy,
  4. Control the money supply to reduce inflation.

please define real work... because I worked construction 60-80 hours a week through some of the coldest fucking winters imaginable for a few year, and now am back at school.

the construction was 10x easier.

exactly, and i garen fuckin tee that the rza is more intelligent that 99.9% of the useless hacks that run this country.

in my opinion you have no clue whatsoever what you are talking about. seriously? changed the voting system? no

amusingly enough he ran up large deficits.

and taxes for the vast majority of the brackets were higher under reagan than they are now.

history people, cmon

Those who strive for power do not deserve it.Those who deserve power do not want it.
So basically, someone who reluctantly takes the job only because the majority of Americans want him to be President. Smart enough to make the right decisions in moments of crisis, wise enough to listen to the opinion of the majority while protecting the nation from the tyranny of the majority, strong enough to make the right friends in Congress without abusing the power, and convincing enough for foreign relations.
In other words, it's almost impossible to have a good President.

So you know very little about politics, but you say you support obama to an extent based on nothing. Great start to a thread.

Good president equals somebody legit. Somebody that cares about the constitution. A person that doesn't sacrifice the freedom of the people for added "security". A person that will end the federal reserve, and stop the printing of money. A person that would pull us out of some of these multinational groups, where we go to war because other countries are doing it. somebody who would only go to war if it was necessary.

You don't need to please everyone. That's retarded. You need to stop running the country into the ground. Our economy blows right now, our ignorance levels are skyrocketing, and our presidents are in no way legit. It's funny that people keep voting every 4 years, actually believing that there are extreme differences between the different candidates or the trend in presidents before that. You're getting the same shit deal each time, just packaged a little differently.

I'd say JFK was the last president we had that was on the right track, and he got killed for it. We will probably keep heading downhill for a while. People need to wake up and get some real change, not some bullshit campaign slogan.

He ran pretty much implying that he would legalize weed. knew that was bullshit, and that never happened. Ran talking about how he would withdraw troops, and not be like bush. Who woulda thunk it, still sending more troops over there. Backs the same style legislation as bush and clinton... weird right?

The differences in presidents is much more subtle than most people think.

but see here, you've done work, you understand what the common person goes through.

the average politician grows up afluently, goes to law school and enters politics. they havent done shit for themselves.

I am going to try to go to law school.. Be a politician though? Fuck that... try to get a federal prosecutor job or something like that.

i dont understand this desire to have common people run the country.

i dont want "common people" doing extraordinary things. running this country takes intelligence, an ability to think about a million things at once, etc. all traits that arent something the average joe has. having a "common person" run this country would be a bigger disaster than any politician we have now.

But are you against someone that is a little closer to the people having grown up near the common people though?

Most politicians grew up with a maid, butler, and private schools since 4 years old....

because thats what gets you the education necessary to achieve those qualities.

if anything this is proof of the class gap, that average joes cant become president. we live in an aristocracy

Not for everyone I know that.

I grew up with a dad that worked his ass off out of an immigrant family to go to Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy and worked his ass off for 40+ years and now I can go to a local State college and will be set up to take a test to get into law school in a year or two.

Only thing is I am not willing to sell my soul to be a politician so I guess that is the ultimate difference.

state college is generally not where politicians, or at least presidents come from.

i mean seriously, the only thing i need to say to prove we dont need "average people" running this country is

sarah palin

i dont like that either. id rather have an intelligent person who WASNT a corrupt POS.

unfortunately that option has yet to present itself.

i suppose i should clarify. i dont really think that every president needs to be a harvard/yale graduate. i think its pretty evident that graduating an ivy league school does not prove intelligence.

HOWEVER, i dont understand why anyone would want a president who could be described as "average", since being president is anything but an average job. no different than having an "average" person as CEO of a major company would probably not go well either.
