What will be the infamous binding now?

With Rossignol not making the FKS bindings anymore, there will be no more new orange bindings making people look good, cause let's be honest that's why most people get them, will the yellow LOOK Pivots be the new orange?

Or will the new go-to binding be plain old black or white?

They became a staple after a while but I liked em. Anyway the pivot will be and they come in black white or green.

i think those yellow pivots might take their place a bit

but the black ones look the sickest anyway. and the important part is that you have dildo heelpieces, that's all anyone needs to see to know youre pro as shit. bonus points if the heelpieces are mismatched

If you don't think a ton of kids bought pivots because they were highly visible, and on the ski's of their favorite pro. Then you're fucking crazy.

Just like Hoodies, and Boonie Caps are functional outerwear on a pow day

well, pivots/FKSs are extremely good pieces of equipment so i dont think it's fair to compare them to hoodies and boonie hats in pow haha but yes....marketing works and it's pretty scary when people think theyre immune to it

unrelated: ........wait, what does FKS stand for? how have i never wondered that?

They are good bindings. The comparison was how trendy they are. And they certainly ARE trendy.

Define trendy? A binding that works better than all other binding? Plenty of other bindings come in crazy bright colors and pros use them. Most people I knew hated that they were bright orange. FKS have been legendary bindings for 15 years and they didnt change color until about 4? years ago. You saw alot of them because people were stoked to upgrade theyre broke ass gold/black fks with brand new ones. I don't think FKS bindings are a trend, theyre just the best bindings.

So advertizing doesn't work? I'm confused. But you're coming from the point of view where almost everyone you know is in the industry, not an outside perspective.

If you are trying to tell me a bunch of kids didn't beg for them because they saw them in flo orange on a pro's ski. You're crazy.

I know plenty of people not in the industry. People buy bindings for functionality, sure there is some influence but I think its crazy to say thats the main reason they bought them.

I never said it was the main reason, I said they were trendy as hell, and a lot of kids who know fuck all bought them because they were highly visible on the feet of pro skiers. Specifically in the park/urban demographic.

lol 15 years? close but look used to make the pivot binding like 40+ years ago, it has always been the best binding on the market, hasn't really changed either...

heres the old binding vs the new one

why do you say they are the best? I love how mine feel (better than any other bindings), but I keep breaking shit on every pair I have owned faster than any other binding besides Marker. They may feel the best, but they are definitely not the most durable. its hard and expensive to get new parts +install them. The company has straight up said they are not willing to change the heelpiece design so they can continue to make money off people who break shit on them.

I love my bindings, but I definitely don't think they are the best if you consider everything.

Its completely subjective, but I have a pair of fks bindings from 10 years ago that I still use. Everyone is different when it comes to their gear, but I know dudes who are so fucking hard on their skis and bindings (urban setting mostly) that use the same pair for years. Sure your shit might break sometimes, but everything breaks.

yeah, im still using my p12 jibs from 2003, the ones with the troublemaker graphics. i know plenty of people have breakage problems but there are just so many positive reviews out there from people like me who have had experience with turntable bindings that blow everything else out of the water

first year on a pair of pivots. They are nice but compared to STHs/916s, my usual go to, they were a pain to mount, have a pretty narrow mount pattern, and the brake mechanism sucks IMO. For those reasons, I don't think I will be getting another pair.

that's a good point i always forget to bring up

does anyone know why they havent updated the mount pattern to make it less narrow? seems like an obvious choice in today's world of fat skis

i wouldnt doubt the truthful answer is "because we sell shit tons of them anyway and we dont feel like spending money on that"

Pretty much this I would say. I got some P18's this season and yeah they feel pretty much like any other high end binding but I would not say they are any better and for sure have a few downsides. Would I get them again, sure if I got a free pair but if Im buying I would just go for what was the cheapest out of a STh 16, attack 16, P18 or jester pro

You're wrong, no one wants orange bindings, they just didnt have an option.

Except for the Look branded ones that were always avalible...

Orange always outsold silver/green/white amongst the newschoolers crowd of skiers. It was marketed this way, and if the ns.com group of skiers are anything, it's easily manipulated by marketing.

Jesters, Attacks, and Wardens all ski like shit compared to a P18. Its like going from a DH bike to a 4in travel trail bike, with shit wheels and flat tires.

The STH16 is ok, but has no where near the feel of a P18.

did the orange actually outsell? or do we just see them more easily b/c its obvious

some evidence: at the shop i work at if a young kid is getting a pair of pivoting bindings, it usually ends up being some of the remaining fks orange we have in stock

Probably because they are cheaper then 17' pivots

13784533:Poindexter. said:
i know for a fact that these people are going for color

Well that's why I chose the FKS 140s instead cause at the time they were 60 dollars cheaper.
