What wide-angle lens should i get?

So im in the market for a wide angle lens and right now i am looking at the Tamron 17-50 or the Tokina 11-17. I will use it for mostly follow cams and tripod shots on the knuckle of jumps so i want the view to be pretty wide. and a question i have is will 17mm on my kit lens be the same as 17mm on a wide angle lens?

what do you have? there's numerous mounts, but the lens itself is obviously the same so I figured that thread would give you all the information you need.
 
Ive got a nikon srry i didn't read thru the whole thread when i replied 1st at first they were talking about canon lenses but later the talked about the two I'm, looking at so thanks it does help
