What wax do you use

i iron on my (park) skis like 2 or 3 times a year... they dont need to be super nice unless its slushy and thats when iron on is gooood. i use yellow which is all temp i think. i wax my race skis like evry week though

I use the green holmenkol wax for colder temperatures. Its just the basic stuff but it does the trick and keeps my skis fast in all conditions.

Try to wax once a month, need those skis fast to get the right speed for jumps.

No powders, don't brush mine. For park skis thats pretty much unnecessary. Unless of course you're riding pipe or in desperate desperate need of speed.

when you iron your park skis you dont even have to scrape em down that much at all, just the first 100 feet will be sticky

usually the basic swix iron onfor high school races il go with a lo-hi flouro, with a coat of pure flouro on top

agreed.

but for park skiing if your on a budget then stick to swix all temp training wax. really cheap compared to CH and LF. but waxing your skis once a month isn't going to do much. if you want your skis to be fast you really should wax them everyday you ski on them but thats tough so waxing them every few days will work too.
can't seem to find it right now. ill try to get a link later

I use demon wax, its a local company for me. but they use different stuff than most companies in their wax, it works good. and its CHEAP.

I am a wax tech. If you want to know what to run for a certain temp, go to www.swixsport.com and then proceed to their wax wiz page, type in conditions and it will tell you what wax to use.
My daughters race, and I service a lot of racers who depend on me to pick up time. If you are looking for better performance, you need to do a good amount of bench work to build up and season the base (see my thread on pre-season ski care posted on NS).
If you are one who doesn't like to wax to much, then wax your three times a year with a wax with a temp range of no higher than about 16 f. It will last longer. If you screw up with choosing the wrong wax temp for conditions, it is best to miss by having a colder condition wax on a warm day. If it is 32 and you have 20 degree wax on, you'll still have decent skis, but if it is the opposit and you have 32 degree wax on a 20 degree day, your skis will be sticky. Next is that temp ranges are influenced by hardness of the wax, colder range, harder wax. Warm weather wax is soft and not very durable. In the summer at our Hood store I recomend using a 10-18 F wax and people always freak becuase it's 60 on hill. If they looked at the box and chose their wax for a 60 degree day with that dirty sharp snow, they might get one or two runs before it's off the ski. The harder wax last thru the day.
So, lazy waxers.... wax once a month with a medium cold weather wax. Wax nuts, read the labels and wax to conditions every night before skiing, and if your in the middle, go with the low temp for the week and wax to that condition every week.
BTW... I swear by Swix brand wax if that is what you want to know.

i have a big block of all temp i bought from my shop. i wax a shitload. probably once every 5-8 days. brush/clean the bases. iron on wax. let it cool for a few hours. scrape and brush.

swix ch for all my regular skis and swix lf for my pipe cleaners, arg's, and race skis.

lf is sick wax if you can afford it, you can tell the difference.

If you use Swix wax, and only one color all year.... I recomend Blue (ch 6) if you're in the east to midwest where it's traditionally colder. If you're in the west, Purple is a little easier to get on and off and is the next step warmer and a pretty good univeral wax.
Useing Red as your only wax, it is a soft wax that's temp range starts at 24F. That range of wax is exellent for building up wax in your ski pre-season and for conditions above 24F, but you might want to drop down if it's your only wax to Purple or Blue
Another option for those that only wax a few times a year with an iron is to always use blue that couple times a year, and then have a tin of Swix F4 rub on paste to suppliment. Swix is the largest wax company and puts more money into developement of glide and protection than anyone. Price difference for upgrade in quality is mininmal.
Now, let me throw out something that will change your life for one bar only waxors.... Swix MB77 base conditioner. Use it as a stand alone wax. It has Molly additive in it with a touch of flouro. It has temp range of Purple bar but is faster and keeps more dirt out of your base structure. It is more expensive than basic CH wax, but a 180g bulk bar for about $48 will get most non-racers thru an entire season and more.
Good luck.
