What video camera or dslr for begginers?

Wow. I'm pretty jelly right now. I'm going to find you and mug you at Rockwell if you get either of those. Seriously though, I'm jelly. Be prepared to put the time in and spend a bit of etxra money though.

haha, if i even bring it to rockwell, i might get the t3i just because the preformance is really good also but at a cheaper price, and yea, im ready to put $400-500 into accesorries once i get the hang of things

I think he's laughing because the 5D mkII doesn't film at 720p60p, and the 7D is a bad choice for video these days considering the 60D, T3i, and T2i are all better for video in terms of features.

You're headed in the right direction with a T3i.

Another thing you should know is the 7D, 60D, T3i, and T2i all have the exact same sensor. So the image quality will not differ at all.

just throwing this out there, but don't forget you wanna keep some money for lenses etc. t3i sounds like exactly what you want imo

well thats what you all suggested that i start off with a good camera from the start so i increased my price range to $2,200 but i still want to keep it in the $850-1,500 range

im only 15 but i buy and sell stuff on ebay and NS so i usually get a profit of $400-700 a month selling stuff i find at tag sales

3 weeks ago i bought a bike at a tag sale on my street for $120, sold the bike for $1,200 to my bike shop not knowing what kind of bike it was at all

thanks im gonna use $500-800 on other stuff i might come to need, such as speed lite, sd card's, lens's, and other stuff

by good camera we really just meant one that was fully manual. and you'll get that with a t3i. it's just good that you have full control over ISO, shutter speed, aperture, etc. and you wouldn't necessarily get that with a 'beginner' camcorder.

thanks for the help will, im going to purchase my camera in about 10 minutes, while i am out there do you have any suggestions on what accesories i should purchase while im at the shop

do you plan on getting the kit lens? if you can help it, buy the body only and get the tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 off of ebay. much better than the kit lens.

also grab a couple 16gb class 10 SD cards, and maybe an extra battery. that should keep you covered for a while.

ok, sick yup, i can buy just the body only and ill see if they have the tamron at the shop too, and i allready have 2 16gb clss 10 sd cards, i will also pick up an extra battery, thanks

word. it may be a little out of your price range if they have it at the shop (on b&h it runs for $460 new) but Chai said he got his for i believe $300 on ebay.

If you don't have a tripod. Get one. Might not be a bad idea to get a glidecam if your budget can afford it

2000 pro is 300 on bh and hd2000 is 450. I night be selling my 2000 pro to help buy the hd2000 soon. I'd also be selling my slider.

I feel obligated to tell you that accessorizing a t3i will double the cost at least.

Also, you don't need a Glidecam right now. Learn to use the camera and a tripod first. A Glidecam is only going to frustrate you at this point.

remember what i said though....

you can spend the extra to get the kit lens now and spend more on the tamron later, or just try to get the tamron now if at all possible and not have to spend the extra money. because trust me, you will want to upgrade from the kit lens.

yea thats fine with me, and im not planning on getting a glide cam cause i dont even know what it does, and i just need to learn how to use the camera, im not that stupid that i dont know how to use a tripod haha

a glidecam is a tool counter balances your camera, giving you smoother shots when moving. but you and landis are correct, you probably don't need one at this time.

there is also more to using a tripod than you think. it takes a lot of time to really get the movements down, and it takes a lot of practice

It has nothing to do with intelligence; it's strictly a matter of dexterity. Shitty tripods are almost impossible to get smooth shots from on a DSLR, even to seasoned veterans who have been shooting for 30+ years.

Since almost every tripod under $1k is a piece of shit, I doubt you are going to invest in a nice one, which means you are going to need lots of practice if you want smooth telephoto shots from a tripod.

yea, i think ill just get the tamron lens that you mentioned instead of the lens kit because youre right i will want to upgrade my lens, and thanks again

thanks, and hell no im not investing 1k into a tripod thats just insane on my part i would never pay that much unless i had money flowing out my ass, and thanks, i have taken video production and advance video production at my school and the tripods are pretty shitty there so ive learned how to get some pretty nice shots with the crappy ones, thanks man

im also going to buy the 3year warranty on top of the 1 year warranty so 4 year warranty for $200 cause i want to be safe

haha just warning you, landis is facepalming right now i bet. i know spending that much on a tripod seems stupid and pointless, but the fact of the matter is that a tripod is one of the biggest investments in your whole camera setup. if you buy a quality tripod, it will last you much longer than your cameras probably will.

that being said, i only have like a $350 tripod. but i can't wait to upgrade to a much nicer one.

Not really. It totally makes sense to cheap out on your first tripod if you are just getting your feet wet in the world of filmmaking. That I can undertand.

I facepalm when I see people with $5,000+ worth of equipment and years of experience under their belts using shitty tripods. I'll make an exception to you Will, because college rapes the wallet (I recently had to choose between a tripod + microphone or an fs100. I chose the former).

But OP, in case you are wondering, your tripod will outlast most of your lenses. I'm talking 30 years longevity for a $1,500+ tripod. With a $500 tripod that needs replacing every 3 years, you will spend $5,000 over the course of 30 years and never have a quality tripod. I know this isn't very relavent since you're starting and all; I just thought I'd chime in.

i didn't mean facepalming the fact that he wasn't buying an expensive tripod, i more just meant the fact that he was kind of making it sound like spending that much on a tripod would be absurd unless you had tons of money to blow, which isn't really the case. i'm sure you didn't when you bought yours, right?

It zero'd my bank account when I bought it :D

Of course I have much more money now hrmph yes *lights cigar and cleans monocle*
