Been skiing for a while. Trying to make a ski documentary this winter.Lots of shots in woods and mountains. I have a camera, new laptop without film editing.

Can i get a grant for this?

What do i need to purchase?

First time filmer, any advice?

Thanks guys

Goodluck getting a grant...

Anyways, getting a mic could be good if your looking for some sounds in your edit. Maybe a slider too if your looking for really creative shots, that'd be sick. A MUST HAVE is some good editing software. FCP if you're on a mac, or Premiere Pro if you're on windows.

Lemme know if you need anything else.

What's Final Cut Pro?...

Might was well go for CS6 Premiere.

Create a a short "about" video, and throw it up on IndieGoGo. I did that for my short film and got $2000 to work with.

I wouldn't necessarily say a >$1000 editing program is a "MUST HAVE". Especially if you're making a paid film, using pirated software is not exactly ideal. Just because something is edited in FCP or Premier Pro doesn't make it a quality production,

I personally had my parents pay half of the price for after effects/premiere and the production suite, but if you can't afford to pay for it, just get it for free. I bought CS5 but when CS6 came out I just cracked it and got it for free. It's really pretty easy. Definitely recommend premiere pro CS6 along with after effects. I guess you dont really need AE but its awesome and I always use it.

If you're a student you can get outrageous deals on the software from adobe. The $1000+ suite is only 400 bucks for students. I actually ogt the discount when I was in middle school, so its not just college.
