What to do when leaving pets for months at a time?

I know this thread sounds lame but I'd rather post here than Facebook, lol. Anyway I'm considering traveling for 6+ months but I have a darling little kitty named Rocky. She's an indoor/outdoor cat and the longest I've left her since I got her last November is 7 days. During the times I've left I've had a friend or two come in and check on her, let her outside for a sec, change her litter, and feed her. I haven't had a sitter stay overnight or anything like that. My concern is leaving for this length of time and having to relocate her. I think it would be best to keep her at my house (I live alone and she rules this place) than to send her to a kennel or to my neighbor's home or something. Also, it is important to note that I plan on keeping my apartment through the time that I'm gone instead of moving out and having her stay with someone else and putting all my stuff in storage. That being said, do any of you have experience with an in-home sitter or subleaser? How much would that cost? Where do I find a petsitter/subleaser?

Also, sidenote: I'm prepared to pay for and stock up on food/litter/toys/trash bags/ etc. that would be needed during the 6 months I'm gone, plus rent. Would it be fair to ask the pet sitter to pay for utilities and wifi or should I cover that too? I have no experience with this so any comments, tips, tricks, concerns are welcomed.

On another note, would my cat remember me / would she hate me? I won't be traveling until January but I want to start figuring out all the details ahead of time.

Get a subleaser for the whole 6 months if you can. They will pay your rent and watch the cat. Otherwise you have to pay for rent AND pay for someone to stop the the house once a week.

Cats don't really need much exercise or attention so you could have your pet sitter stop by once a week to cut on costs. Pets never forget their true owner so she will 'member.

This is why i cant bring myself to get a pet, as much as i want one. My sisters cat is very social and loves humans so she pays friends to visit the house and keep her company for a couple hours each day but she definitely still hates it when we leave for long periods. She was piiiissed when we were packing up to leave for 3 weeks earlier this summer. She probably won't hate you forever but you'll definitely put her under a lot of stress if you ditch her for that long. Contrary to popular belief, a lot of cats get lonely

If you're traveling for 6 months, either take the cat with you or give it away. Do you have family you could send it to live with? That would be the best option that considers both your and the cats wellbeing.

Don't leave your cat alone for 6 months and have someone come check in periodically. Just like dogs, cats do get lonely, so what you're suggesting is a horrible idea. Kennels are shitty and also $$$$. Please don't to either idea.

When I had a cat I had to make an emergency trip that was only for 3 days. I left him with clean litter box and the 3 days worth of food. Upon my return I found gifts of poop that he left for me right in front of the bedroom door and he meowed constantly like he was yelling at me for leaving him that long.

I took him with on every other trip I made.

I dont have him any more.have dogs now.

My ideas go with whats been said already. Either find a subleaser or have kitty stay with family or friends. They do go crazy for interaction with other living things. They also need to maintain their natural hunting instinct so they need playmates whether human or other cat friends. Definitely better than a kennel. Since you have like 5 months theres time to find someone

Move out of your apartment for the 6+months or find someone to sublet it. Leave the cat with friends. If you're going to travel a bunch in the future give the cat away.

I love animals but have no pets at this point because I move around so much.

Bang as many random dudes as possible before you leave. One of them should be willing to take the cat to stay in your good graces for when you return.

Nice to see you still post. How’s the milf game been?

If you're not ready to plan your life around a pet, then you aren't ready to have pets.

Make a lifesize doll of yourself, leave 6 months worth of time-activated feeding trays and then buy like 10 extra litters for the poop/pee. It's like you've never left, cats are too dumb to notice

I didn't want to start a new thread with this question, so guys, give me an advice. What can I do with my cat, when I will go on my holiday? Some suggestions, where can I leave my pet.

best possible thing you can do is get a trusted friend who's responsible to take care of it while you're gone

Its a cat, you stupid fuck. Leave it a giant bowl of water, plenty of food and a patch of dirt to shit in. Cats take care of themselves unlike dogs, which you should never get because you clearly don't have the intelligence needed to take care of one.

Leaving your pet alone can be very stressful for him. I never leave my dog alone. Some people think that leaving a pet home alone can be cruel, but I disagree. Yes, pets need attention and stimulation, but they also need privacy sometimes. It's probably not difficult to find someone to care for your pet when you leave town. It would be ideal if you had a family member or friend who could do it, but if not, there are other options you can get him some toys fromhttps://www.doggietoys.deals/product/football-soccer-tennis-ball-set/.

I can tell you rub peanut butter on your nuts.

Care.com for the sitter

And no, kitty will smell you when you return and all will be forgotten and forgiven

Shits not that complicated. There’s instructions for this type of scenario on the web. You just have to know where to look.
