What to do if you get baseburn?

I think I waxed a little to hot the other day, as every time I ride after a good wax the base has patches of white areas with no wax on them. I think I might be preparing my base for the wax wrong, to start with, so it might be that and not base burn. *Will a simple Base Grind fix baseburn?

A base grind will do the job. But it might take more grinding then your average tune does. If it is really bad then you might be screwed and a grind will not fix it

The wax might not be adhering to the base of your ski right. Are your skis room temperature or warm when you wax them? And I have a similar question/problem. My skis tend to get a white powdery type look to the bases, almost flakey. It's because they are dry and need wax right? I don't wax my skis.

Is your ski base level? you may just be missing a part of your ski which would lead to it still being chalky and white. And yes if your ski base needs to be waxed it will start to look white and flaky almost like dry skin.

Had this happen to 2 brand new skis from LINE and K2 after about 1-2 uses. All you need is a good waxing every so often. Go out and buy and good waxing iron for like around $80 with the wax, it's worth it. Also I've noticed that this happens often when you have a ski that has a see through base with a graphic design under it unlike other skis that are mostly black as the base.

Yup I have the LTC Anthems. And that is what the base is, see through graphic. I've been using them since about the whole season and haven't waxed them. And thanks for the information guys.

Thanks for the reply, and yeah i was thinking about that, but im going to try waxing one more time and making sure its at room temp, and then taking alittle more wax off.

Well, I have the LINE TC's too, and I get slightly white edges after a day of riding on a fresh wax. I make sure the iron isn't smoking hot either, so not sure what is up. Should my edges be white after one day on a wax?

The white powder look also seems to depend on what type of base it is. My chronics, which I believe have a sintered base of some sort, don't show that nearly as quickly as my brothers skis with extruded bases. And we both wax them about the same frequency.

yup, i had Line Abangs and they had this same thing and now i have got the k2 Domain it is also happening! so annoying

I hope you're talking about bases not edges...

But no that should not happen after one day. Make sure you're using the right wax (including the temp the wax is meant for) and that you're covering the entire base with wax. I've missed spots before and then I'll notice it the next time I go skiing those spots turn white again quickly.

I went a whole year with base burn because I didn't know anything about it last year, and it sucks on dem pow days.
