what the hell does this list mean

Ive recently, twice, came across the following list. Its a very interesting list, but I know very little of it's origins and (apparently great) significance.

It is, it seems, suggested that animals are divided into the following classifications:

1. those that belong to the Emperor,

2. embalmed ones,

3. those that are trained,

4. suckling pigs,

5. mermaids,

6. fabulous ones,

7. stray dogs,

8. those included in the present classification,

9. those that tremble as if they were mad,

10. innumerable ones,

11. those drawn with a very fine camelhair brush,

12. others,

13. those that have just broken a flower vase,

14. those that from a long way off look like flies.

Can anyone shed any light on the meaning, origin and significance of this list? If so, great, if not I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did

I've got this crazy crazy feeling that it has something to do with greeting cards, but I couldn't begin to explain why, cuz I don't know

i doubt it...the only lists that were in that book were those that showed how to organize a society in a communist way since the book is a way of showing the history of russia around the time of marx
