What the fuck happened to horstman camps

Coc ends july 10? with two camps?

Momentum ends july 18th?

i swear last year momentum ended late july and coc had four camps.. obviously this isnt due to snow loss because BC is having a great year and they even put snowmaking on the glacier. So is windells racking in all the camper now or what?
 
that's pretty weird since whistler smashed snowfall records this season.

but I saw something a while ago about putting a snowmaking system on the glacier so maybe that's why.

There is a difference between 'being poor' and 'being profitable'. Last year they had way less campers because of snow conditions, i'm sure they'll be full this year and have 3-4 session next summer.

I was signed up for week 3 this year at camp of champs, and they sent out an E-mail either last month, or two months ago saying they were canceling because they value camper safety, sounded like they were canceling for safety reasons, but I could be wrong.

Seems suspect to me, especially considering how much snow the glacier has gotten this year. They pulled the same card last year, when Momentum was easily able to get another session or two out of their season. Not hating on COC, but they should consider reevaluating their situation, or as eheath worded it, it'll be difficult to stay profitable.

Correct! Full sessions run from May 15th up until August 22nd. Weekend camps are still available from September to early November weather permitting. We are currently in the process of reconstructing camp after a long winter, thank god there's none of that snow around anymore.

No, there has always been 5 sessions. This year the adult week is the first session instead of the last one, and the sessions got moved back a week earlier than years past.

Camp 1806 should travel around. It's hard for shin bang and I to come out east. I heard the snow is so dry there it's like 100% air and there's no snow! Is it really that light!?

im pretty sure its because their renovating roundhouse and some other stuff on blackcomb so they have to shut the mtn down this summer. except for biking.
 
Probably has to do with some sort of profitability for the camp. Why would they continue to operate if they aren't making money for certain sessions?

yea im pretty sure momentum closed early/mid july. i was riding whis public park last summer july 1-14 and they were closed by the time i left. could have just been getting ready for the next camp though.
 
it also used to start on like june 20th. this year it is the 11th. i think in past years the last day was around the 28th of july.
 
Here's the update on why we moved our camps a week earlier:

Last year we ran all 5 of our sessions from the first day open to the last, ending July 27th. Despite the low snow year, we were able to build one of our best parks ever and remain fully operational until the end. However, by the last session our fully operational park was the only one left standing, as no other camps could operate. To avoid this happening again, the mountain made a decision before the big snow year this winter to move the camp dates forward and end 1 week earlier. We responded by switching our famous Adult Week from the last week to the first so we will still be able to run for 5 full weeks again.

The net result of this decision, given the extra load of snow we now have up there, is that we will have 5 full weeks of banger snow this summer and be able to build an even greater park for everyone. For those that think session 5, our last week, might be dicey for snow, this will definitely not be the case this year - as it's in mid-July, when the park is still firing on all cylinders!

We're looking forward to one of our best summers to date, and thanks to the Canadian dollar being so low we're stoked to welcome so many new Americans that have been signing up!

the glacier is closer to the sun than the rest of the mountain so sometimes the snow melts quickly even on a big year, depending on solar flares and natural radiation.

the glaicer is open just as long as it has been in past years. its just shifted back earlier this year. its the way it should have always been done. ideally they would open it right after the winter season ends on may 30th, and then have it end the first week of july. im sure they need a bit of time to get the camps set up though.

it will also be interesting to see how much of a difference the snowmaking made. as long as we're not skiing on straight glacial ice again, ill be happy.

It wasn't even bad, between public park and t bar was fucked, same with the bottom of momentum, everything else was fine tho
