What sports does NS do when not Skiing?

I did the Lemosho route. I think I remember you telling me you did the Machame route, which is one of the most popular routes. I really want to do Mt Rainer in the summer, a lot of the great mountaineers have always used Rainer as a good training ground for the Himalayas

I want to do aconcagua in argentina sometime. Prolly the highest id ever go. Not the technical and pretty damn high. Like 22 something i think.

High altitude mountaineering. I climbed Mt Kilimanjaro this August, planning on doing Ama Dablam in April then Denali in May

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Ama Dablam a standout in that list? Heard it was an incredibly technical peak, unlike Kili or denali. You going with a company or setting out on your own? Either way thats an all time adventure

That’s up on my list as well. I know a few ppl and they all said it’s a pretty easy climb, nothing technical it’s just above 7000 meters so the main issue is altitude. It’s fairly cheap compared to a lot of mountains if u wanna go thru a company, like under 2k. But I know ppl that have done it without a company and have gone with a group of their own or met up with ppl in the area which is common from what I was told. and they had there own gear but they said they didn’t pay anything, other than maybe a park fee.

I think you still need a lermit which is like a starck and change.i wanna do it solo. I fucking hate hiking with people unless cool people and gnarlier terrain. Only like 2 k higher than kili.

Rainier looks fucking wild though. Idk. Well see. I climbed a bit when I was a kid but haven't done much roped mountaineering.

Good luck though. I think I'd like to do denali eventually but who knows kinds broke. Really only did kilimanjaro because i was already in Africa, living at 10k feet, amd hadsome cash to burn. Generally too poor for that shit. Would be dope though.

Also since im not a climber or ever teying to stack shit I'm counting kosciusko in Australia even though I splitboarded there from my apartment lol.

It's just barely below 7000m

just out of curiosity does anyone know the requisites to be able to go base jumping? Always wanted to try it but I'm pretty sure it's like tens of thousands of dollars over several years of getting certified.

work :(

when im not working i skate, but they took out the skatepark close to where i live in the summer (nearest one is 1 hr away now). mtb too

You'll probably die, but I'm pretty sure in the early days when base jumping was super illegal no one was certified

From what i was told if you have ur own gear, it is possible to solo in the sense that ur going at ur own pace, but there still will be others on the mountain. And again, if u got ur own gear u can climb it for basically nothing, unlike kili and many other major peaks. As long as you can acclimatize, the climb is pretty easy, not technical at all.

Oh, and obviously a permit from the Nepal Ministry of Tourism is required for Ama Dablam. However, this permit is extremely inexpensive compared to 8000m mountains.

There are no "requirements" for BASE jumping. Absolutely nothing and no one is stopping you from purchasing a rig and hucking yourself off a bridge, cliff, etc.

However, the way 99.9% of all participants get into BASE is through sky diving. You need to learn what falling feels like, how to handle a chute, how fast you fall, and a wholeeeeee lot more. To get into skydiving you'll likely start out with a jump or two strapped to another dude. If he gets an erection, he's gay. If you get an erection, you're gay. However, this does absolutely nothing to qualify you to jump on your own.

To learn/qualify to jump on your own, you'll need to take a course. This will cost a fairly significant amount of money. Afterward you'll be able to get on a plane and jump on your own. Each trip up (each jump) will run you only around $25. This assumes you have your own rig (parachute). It's strongly recommended that you have several hundred jumps under your belt before you attempt your first BASE jump.

There's a bridge in Utah that is super friendly/easy to jump and many folks do their first BASE jump there. An important consideration is that you will need a BASE-specific rig. The rig you use for skydiving will not work. The natural progression in the sport, if you wish to get into wingsuit flying, is to wingsuit from a plane a significant amount before attempting it on a BASE jump. You'll also want a really significant number of BASE jumps under your belt before you consider a wingsuit.

what mountains have you climbed brutha?

Mountain biking, mountaineering, bit of bouldering before covid. Anything that gets me outside

What route did you end up doing? I did one of the m ones. Maybe macheme? Different up and down which was cool.

Im living right near Rainier atm. Might eventually try and give that a whirl but shes a gnarly fucker. Gorgeous mtn though.

You should do Adams then Baker first to get experience with high altitude slogging and glacier travel. On Rainier you put them together and its... difficult. Also if you havent already, the hike up to Muir is pretty safe and gives a taste of what its like.

Quite a few significant peaks and major alpine objectives. I've also organized and led expeditions. Chest-puffing online is not my style though.

Altitude isn't much of an issue but the mountaneering side im pretty light in experience. Ill check into those.

I swam competitively for 9 years and then quit when I graduated high school.

Was not as fun as skiing

Same. I did aquatics through high school. Swimming sucked but water polo was fun as shit. Miss the agressive nature and loose rules of the game.

Hah every now and again we would have 'water polo day' and just beat the shit out of each other. Good times

Oh yes. My senior year the polo team of 12 guys accounted for more concussions than the football team and we were damn proud of it lol.

I played water polo last year too. It got cancelled this year though unfortunately

I see you're a pine knob guy. Who do you play for? Probably played your team at one point.

I like to go river surfing, I didnt really get to go out much this summer which is a real bummer, also real surfing.

Gotcha. Don't think I ever came across you guys. I played for West Ottawa on the west side, graduated like 4 years ago though.

Heres one to start: I skim a ton, and heres my most recent edit, Im trying to get sponsored for skimboarding at the moment

Go check that out

Nice! That beach looks beautiful, where is it?

I used to skim almost daily in the summers. We had a big crew and comps here in like '06-'10ish.

Now I mountain bike, disc golf a little, skateboard really badly, XC ski a tiny bit and snowboard. Work usually keeps me too busy to do a lot in the summers now though! Here's some old vids of skimboarding from way back. Pretty funny to see now!

Before skiing took over my life I was an avid athlete, I competed in swimming, basketball, soccer and anything the school offered. But when I began riding park I dropped everything else, at the moment though I'm trying to get into MTB and other extreme sports which could contribute to my skiing.

Did you just say that park skiing and mtb are extreme sports?
