What makes a ski movie good for you?

For me, it's how much a flick makes me want to go ski, along with how much I rate the music. Sure I enjoy ski porn like Sherpas', but you definitely have to be in the right mindset for it.

In terms of recent movies, Thirsty wins in this department. thxz hoodcrew
 
I feel like the best ski movies are the ones who stay in the same theme. That might sound weird, but when there are shots that are similar, a soundtrack that is similar, and riding style that is showcase in as many ways as possible. I feel like Keynote Skier did a great job of portraying this. That's just my two cents, though
 
The best ski movie for me is the one I like the best cause of the content that's in the movie that makes me like it the best, such as the skiing that I enjoy to watch the best.

Good vibe and good skiing. I prefer movies that are focused on urban, and that have a banger opening and closing segment, or just memorable segments.

Creating a memorable ski movie is so hard. I look at Everyday is a saturday, eye trip and other banger movies and the vibe in them is just so sick. Then I watch the movies which are coming out today (tracing skylines etc) and the vibe just isn't there. However the skiing is just as good. I feel music plays a huge part and today film companies just aren't picking good music. B-dog had great music from Keynote Speaker by U-God, however not everyone has the same interests in music.
 
I am super reminiscent of my childhood ski movies like Warren millers 50 or Claim. Literally any MSP movie gets my stoke factors off the charts. Humor is also a big part of how much I enjoy the film, that's why TC is so enjoyable, also, I know it isn't a ski movie, but the shred bots the movie looks rad and somebody tell me how it was if they saw it. Everyday is a Saturday is also one of my favs, super good filming, skiing, crew, soundtrack, and just all around grand film.
 
Every video these days is filled with bangers and amazing skiing. Full length videos need something to set them apart. I personally enjoy skier bios and bit of narration on what it took to get a shot, a little bit of story behind the skiing. I'm not looking for an Aspen Extreme plot, but I do like hearing from the athletes and producers on what it took to get it done and the hijinks along the way. Pure bangers and music just isn't enough to hold my attention, thats what 5 minute web edits are for IMHO. A full length movie needs a bit more substance. Really creative features help as well, after a while all the straight down rails start to look the same. As skiers our rail tricks are limited compared to other sports, so finding creative spots makes a huge difference i.e. JP's urban edit in All I Can or the Brothers Bower killing those cabins.

That and filthy, filthy porn.
 
I personally love a ski movie that has music that represents the style of skiing being portrayed. I know many people weren't a fan of Sunny, but I personally love the film. The music is not necessarily stuff I would go download, but it is music that is perfectly portraying the skiing. Same with The Way I see It. One of my all time favorite movies because the music and skiing go hand in hand and get me stoked.

Another thing for me is the vibe of the actual skiers. If I'm being shown bails over and over and then a banger, I know that that skier worked his ass off for the shot. It makes me appreciate the shot more and ultimately makes me more hyped for the movie.

Hoodcrew's Thirsty has been on repeat for me for the past month now. Great music, great vibes from the skiers, and bangers on top of bangers. Also they embody the idea of FREE skiing. They don't give a fuck, do what they want, and shred like no other. This is what its all about and its fucking awesome to see.
