What makes a good ski shop?

Not charging $100+ for a mount is all I really care about

Good lord, most I've seen a shop charge in NH is like $55. Tried to get some skis mounted in a pinch, went to a shop in MA and was quoted 75 and ended up just doing it myself.

GOOD BOOT FITTER. Ski teams will send families to a shop with good service and a good boot fitter. Offering like a 5-10% discount to particular ski teams does a lot to guarantee a lot of business.

Admitting when you fuck up. EVERY shop has a few mount mistakes every now and then. If you accidentally drill all the way through a customers ski, and tell them it's fine cause you p texed it, they won't be stoked, and chances are you'll lose business.

Here is a list of a few things that the shop i work at does that i think is mad sick and defiantly brings in a crowd.

-down town location

-free beer on tap

-good music and vibes

-dog friendly (usually one of the bosses or employees will bring in there dog)

-have monthly-weekly events usually with beer sponsors

-pay employees to demo skis (a lot easer to sell a dad ski that i have actually skied)

-friends and family hook up

-team and club hook up

-angry karon you took too long to help me out 5% hook up

-a team of boot fitters who are knowledgeable and can also make custom foot beds

-brands that sell both large and small (armada, K2, ON3P, noridica, line, iclantic, moment, black crow)

If you had a mini fridge full of beers and a box of wine you would be golden. Kids don’t spend money, kids parents who like to drink cause they have kids spend money.

We have a bunch ski shops in our town Lincoln, NH (tourist central). By far my favorite out of all of them is Lahouts. Cheap mounting that's done by the next day, great selection for different types of skiers (except racers and backcountry), and great employees. You can ask all the questions you want and they will help you with all of them. Even the manager of the shop will come over and have a casual conversation about skiing with you.

A few other things I recommend are:

-tv with skiing videos (as mentioned before)

-good goggle selection

-free stickers

-maybe a different section for snowboarders to get even more business (unless it's strictly skiing)

-target one main type of skiing (racing, freeski, backcountry)

If you open near the White Mountains I would be down to work there if you ever need more people

Whenever you walk into most shops it seems like it's always centered mostly around just skiers or snowboarders. It would be cool to see a shop that had a good selection for boarders and skiers, and employees familiar with both.
