What made you start freeskiing?

How and why did you start doing tricks on skis? Who/what made you want to ski freestyle? For me, once i randomly found this video on youtube I kney what I wanted to do with my life.

i was done with racing after high school, and wanted another way to keep pushing my progression in skiing when the conditions were east coast.

The searchbar helped a lot, but honestly it was watching some poor boyz movies and some windells skiing edits, I had been skiing since 2 but didn't even think about going into the park until last year.

I found this video on Kazaa when I was like 10 or 11. I already skied, but that's when I knew freeskiing was for me.

Seeing the guys doing 540's and 7's on the 'big' jumps at tremblant, that was so long ago, like early 2000's.

Seeing the park at my local hill, skipping race training as a little punk to straight slide flat boxes. Then I saw Level 1's Forward. Crichton's seggy changed it for me.

Just skiing with my friends as a kid and pushing each other every day we went out made me the freeskier I am today.

Just somehow came naturally. Going through the parks every now and then, taking some small jumps. Somehow all fell into place from there on...

This really good snowboarder at my local hill inspired me to start skiing park. I knew I would never snowboard so I bought some park skis

I got bored with the regular slopes to be honest. I got about as good as an East coast skiier of my age could get on our mountain's groomers, and I just ventured into the park from there. Had a terribly long gaper phase that I now look back on with scorn, but I was blissful

i saw these on youtube. i was like "pretty cool but i'll stick to snowboarding" that was 3 years ago. now i do both

still one of my favorite edits to this day, it was this and my best friend nagging me to try it out

Simon Dumont. Some older kid posted this edit on facebook:

i then proceeded to watch all of his joss edits. This was one of them:

I then found about Tom Wallisch and saw this edit:

Then i begged my mom to buy me twin tips and for my 13th birthday i got over $600 in gift cards from so many people that i bought myself some salomon threats with squires. the rest is history

started skiing park around 13 years old when I saw Todd Wallnutz and Black Steve (then green goblin) destroying rails at Ski Roundtop Pennsylvania 8 or 9 years ago. I also remember seeing them smoke a blunt in the middle of the park. it was the first time I ever saw weed

A reason to wear huge baggy clothes and bonk around on rails to shitty underground rap. Seriously, haha i enjoy fucking with people on the mountain.

My parents had me do race team when I was little because I liked to ski fast. And then after 2 years a realized racing blows so I switched to the freeski team instead

I grew up in Snowmass Village, CO so i guess you can say i started because my parents put me on skis at age 1 down the driveway

In 1994 when Jean Luc Brassard won the Olympics, his run blew me away. I always wanted to ride moguls. Finally, my parents signed me up when I was 13 and I was hooked. After 7 years, the federation was heading in the wrong directions and I had to quit for school. I started to focus on park until I rediscovered freeriding.

My home mountain is small and very park based, so I got bored of skiing the runs regularly and started doing goofy little cliffs and jibs with friends. Eventually I got some park skis, (Candide's pro model used) and it clicked.

I was just joy skiing and I was curious to see what all these jumps were so I went to go check it out.. Boom insta hook

Basically my mountain put in a terrain park, and there were like 2 or 3 older kids at the mountain who skied park. I wanted to do what they were doing. I had my first pair of park skis for the 04/05 season. Then I found the 4bi9 videos on youtube before I even started coming on NS and that really pushed me. I'd watch them every day after school. #highschool

man i used to sit and watch teasers all summer long back in like 2003ish. pop your bottles had dipset for their teaser and i used to get so amped watching that. then i bought up every video i could get my hands on that year. Rory Silva's part where he was running around slashing dudes in PYB was the shit! i grew up skateboarding and used to seeing these gnarley dudes ride, but he was the first dude i saw put out a segment that wasnt all G'ed out. and he was riding the my first pair of skis i bought, k2 fujitives! so i was even more amped on that... good times with my buddies settin up ghetto boxes in the fall was equally fun and got me more stoked to ride

I skateboard pretty much every day of my life so when winter comes on the east coast i had nothing to do and of course i wanted to snowboard at first and i did for like 2 seasons and then last season i was chilling at the top of the terrain park and i looked over and saw these dude with huge shirts and baggy ass pants just getting super hyped off of each others tricks and it looked like they were having a really good time and I knew i wanted to do that. So i saved up my christmas money for twin tips and started going as much as i could and i love it now. Haven't snowboarded since.

My friend got SSX: Ontour for christmas and we played it, and I was completely amazed by the idea of doing tricks on skis. So yea, I guess thats what got me into skiing!

The 2005 D-Jam at Val St. Come was a gamechanger for me! It was the first time I got to meet Doug and Felix, and was the catalyst to me wanting to work in the ski industry.

I was skiing for years and hitting random side booters here and there doing 180s and shit. then started hanging out with older kids who skied/boarded park, but this edit was the beginning of my obsession.

SSX: Ontour, holy shit i loved that game so much. I remember my brother did a safety grab when we were doing ski lessons like 5 years ago and it was the coolest thing ever

Saw this on MTV2 with my dad when I was in 5th, maybe 6th grade. This really inspired me.
