What legal rights do I have?

you need to get some dirt on him and threaten to go public with it unless he doesnt release the film, if he wants to get into making movies he wont want his name tarnished
 
Wow, I honestly wouldn't imagine he would do that without telling you... especially with regards to such a moving documentary. I hope he comes around; I feel you deserve some credit (maybe not legally, but definitely from a moral standpoint) for sharing your story like that. The first time it was shown in the school's film festival, if there was one person who hadn't teared up by the end of it, I would be surprised.
