What kind of computer does everyone have?

im gonna make a custom, and its gonna be the tits.

8gb ram, athlon duo2 or something like that. undecided at this point as to what components im gonna get

seriously 6gb is max you will need. well what i did, i bought 4gb of ram but the fastest you can get on the market. it really makes a differences. and i have the new 6 cores OC to 3.8 each with 2 ati radeon hd 5850 omg i can run everything to the top and i paid like 1600 for it. custom build is the way to go !

8g is almost nessesscary for editing hd video...

and here is my full components list, gonna cost me about 800:

AMD Phenom x2 3.2ghz

gigabyte 770t atx motherboard

g.skull ripjaws 8gb ram(2 4gb)

standard dvd burner

Raedon HD 5830 1gb videocard

750w rosewill power supply, mid tower atx rosewill case

1.5TB seagate barracuda 7200rpm hard drive

shitty mac from like 1812. it fucking sucks, cant play videos and takes forever to load anything and is responsible to countless headaches

definately get a quad core before you get 1gb of memory on your video card... or 6gb of ram

not that you need any of that anyway...

go for a radeion HD 5850 instead. it will be like another processor that will help you render btw. i set mine so when i do editing, it will be use for ram and the processor in it will act like my 7th core :) it speeds up a bit.

on another note buy the HAF 922 casing for good ventilation. mine is working like a charm :)

ps: sorry for my bad english skills, im mainly french frome quebec. just trying to help you to make a good choice:)

HP pavillion DV7Intel core i5 CPU M430@ 2.27 Ghz4.0GB RAMNvidia Geforce 230M500Gig harddrive
^^My main working laptop, with its 17 inch screen it's perfect for @ home or @ college
and a Dell E6500Intel Core 2 DUO processor CPU p8400@ 2.26 GHZ4.0GB RAMAnd an Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M Graphics card150gig harddrive
^^My travelling laptop, handles everything quite ok, is rigged out with an extra battery pack that enables me to use it almost 4 hours on highest performance and almost 12hours on energy saving
also got a small portable external usb harddrive from 250gig i use for data transferring and storage when i'm abroad....

^^both aren't really big shot laptops, but they can both handle my HD footage from my GoPro, both 1080 30fps and 720 60fps perfectly fine, my dell got a bit of a cooling problem so after some time he gets overheated when he stands on a flat surface, so i need to put a book or something underneath it and 5 minutes later he's back and working fine :)

I have an Acer Laptop for school.

Gaming PC at home:

Antec 900 case

Intel i7-920, currently running stock. Probably going to overclock it a bit soon.

Dfi LanParty DK X58-T3eH6

XFX GeForce GTX 285 1gi, looking to upgrade soon. I want me some DX11 support

6Gigs ram, also looking to upgrade soon.

1tb Samsung HD, almost full now.

Asus Xonar D1 Soundcard

Cost me around $2200 when it was new, about one and a half years ago.

i would but im trying to keep this comp cheap, and the 5850 is an extra 100. but i was def. looking at it. same goes for the case. its like twice as expensive as the one i have and mine should cool fine

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 that's about to die. I got it before college, so now it's about four and half years old. The battery only lasts for 15 minutes on a full charge, and that's only if the power cord charges it at all. There's a piece of plastic broken off next to the keyboard and one of the hinges is broken so it doesn't really close right. Oh, and it decides to freeze on me all the time for no reason, and if I get disconnected from the internet, my internal wireless card decides to shut off and not come back on until I restart my computer! It's great.

Any suggestions for a new laptop? Not a huge fan of Macs, so let's stick with Windows based PCs. All I really need it for is the word processor, internet, music, and some basic video editing.

12 core mac pro
32GB (8x4GB)
2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive (4)
Two 2.93GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” (12 cores)
Grand total $20,000
(i had to skimp on the solid state memmory, too expensive)

are you serious...? im guessing thats total overkill, xeons are a total waste for what you spend, they're meant for running a server. even then, the fact that its a mac boosts the price even more.

i have this is my room
