What is your stretch before skiing routine if you have one?

Yes I accept I am older. I have to do things now that I did not have to do before, such as slow down, ski to ski another day and stretch! I always had a small routine prior to skiing the day, get dressed in the parking lot(or lodge) click into the binders and go make a hot lap to get the legs all warmed up, swing the legs around a bit, touch the tips of my skis, do a basic quad stretch and I was off skiing. Now, I have to stretch every damn muscle from my big toe to my neck before I slide the slopes.

What is every ones routine, if you have one? Interested to adopt anything to assist my aging ass.

I do like a 5 minute yoga routine in the morning when I wake up, then again before I go to bed

No specific poses need to happen, Just aim to get at least one big stretch in for every major muscle group and do what feels good

Bought a $10 band at Walmart and I do knee exercises. It’s the only way I can function in the park at 29. If you want the details let me know but I swear by it.

Shattered my ankle with a tib fib pilon fracture. Couldn’t walk for 7 months. Hard twisting impact off a kicker but my knees were fine.

This helps a lot it’s not about mobility just when you ski. If you can make an effort to this daily you’ll be way better off. I bring tennis balls and massage gun in the boot bag. I also focused a lot on lower back upper back and neck stretching right before.

I've been sitting on my heels, trying to make my butt touch my heels and get my range of motion freed up. Good on the left but the right.. not so much.

I don't stretch as much as I probably should buy on the chairlift I like to grab the outside edges of my skis and pull. Nothing special but it helps throughout the day

I've been doing yoga every morning. There are lots of options on the Youtubes these days. It helps quite a bit, probably the best shape I've been in for ski season.

I have been doing yoga now for a year. My routine is about 1 hour before I go to bed, but it changes depending on what I need to work on. It started with obsessing over squats and ankle mobility, but has now progressed to doing more hip oriented stretches. To get you started I recommend this resource, it is the best I have found (https://www.sensational-yoga-poses.com/).

Here is generally how I would recommend you go about this. First find what you thing you need to work on. Then find stretches that target that need. Then find the next thing that needs work on. This process will go on until you have a full body routine.

Jokes aside though, I don't really do any static stretches before skiing, but some simple dynamic warmups, just trying to move around and get loose, especially getting the hips and back moving freely, and I notice it helps a fair amount.

I do try to stretch after skiing tho, usually whenever I get home and before I go to bed. What has helped me the most in not feeling stiff is actually using my trampoline a lot, idk what it is about it but when I get in a routine my knees and back feel amazing.

FWIW I'm 26 now, have had back and knee pain since I was 15, and I feel better now than I did when I was a teenager

I stretch at the peak with a nice view. I also like to stretch in my full kit that way it feels less stiff on me.

The Kila-T’s Yoga Routine goes as follows:

-Sit on ground with bottoms of feet touching, stretch those hammys.

-1 leg out, one leg all the way in, grab those toes and hold til failure.. then repeat on the other leg. Then go back to first leg and add twisting torso, do same for other leg.

-Stand up, reach for the sky, arch the body to stretch the abdomen. Then touch toes.

-Doward dog down into Cobra a few times

-Jump up, smack myself on the dome piece a few times

-Let out a booming “AR AR AR AR AR!!”

-Engage Spotify playlist and start bombing

Hope this helps my G, I haven’t pulled a muscle since I started doing this before ever first run of the day.

Massage gun the quads before and after skiing always helps

Foam roll for lower/upper back and hamstrings/glutes

Dynamic stretching before skiing and static stretching after

Even 5 minutes of yoga a day helps to prevent me from feeling stiff and in pain

Old guy problem for sure ?

I never used to have to, but now I take a good 5-10 mins to stretch before I ski park. I pay particular attention to stretching my legs out and getting my knees loose

The best is when I’m stretching and a boomer rolls by and says to his wife “see now he’s smart”

(feels good cuz I’m actually a fuckin idiot)

No I just go straight from my car and throw down doubles my first run. 17 years in the terrain park have actually made my knees better so I don’t need to stretch.

Thank you every one! Lots of great info and tips here. Wishing everyone a good Christmas and hope the snow keeps falling!
