What is the point of karma?

What is the point of karma? I until about 4 or 5 days ago had a rating of around 2600. And in one day I went from a 10.00 to a rating of 6.67! How is that even possible? And now my score is all the way down to 1911! I posted one video, which I don't think is bad.. And all of the sudden my Karma shots down? I know that I'm not a professional or anything, but why such negativity? Rather than just down voting and ruining my karma, Could you at least let me know who I could improve in a comment or something? What the Hell?

people usually reduce your karma if you say something stupid in the forums not from videos

videos will make your karma go up. you get karma for anything that generates views.

For example, the karma points OP gets by me viewing this thread add to his total karma. However, if for some reason a user became annoyed that OP didnt search bar they could either downvote his post or his account which would reduce his karma.

I, for one, would never do such a thing because I love both the karma system and karma threads. Good job OP

I have not posted a stupid comment on a video in the past week, that I know of, I don't comment on a lot of videos.

someone probably rated you something really low to cause the dive. Anywhoo karma's more for the backend than the front end, i wouldn't worry too much about it
