What is the deal with the DEA?

Last week 4 dispensaries were raided in Washington. The DEA had been investigating the dispensaries for a couple years up to the raid. All the accomplished was taking 2 or so grand of meds for each state legally run dispensary and the dispensaries are still selling weed. They did nothing at all.

"Wednesday’s raid on the four dispensaries in Washington may have cost an upwards of $12.3 million, according to analysts from Americans for Safe Access, a national patient rights organization.

According to data from ASA’s What’s the Cost? report, the two year investigation and Wednesday’s raids may have cost taxpayers $12,327,732 — and that doesn’t include the cost to prosecute dispensary operators in court, or house them in federal correctional institutions for upwards of ten years or more.

While the raids themselves cost just over $300,000, the lengthy investigations leading up to the raids cost taxpayers a staggering $12,014,334 according to ASA’s calculations."

That is for just those three dispensary raids and they accomplished nothing but to take meds from patients. Why do they waste so much money to do not a damn thing. There have been close to 600 raids in total in the US. How much money do we have to wast before people realize the DEA is just throwing our money in the garbage and letting the cartels profit. I am sure the DEA could have made much better use for that 12 million, in fighting the cartel.

What are your guys's thoughts on this? Whether you are for smoking or not, Is it the DEA's fault or are there other issues at hand here? because who logically thinks its ok to spend this type of money on busting a couple legally run dispensaries that comply under all state regulations?

The DEA just has nothing better than to play with the way that the Ogden Memo is interpreted.

This website talks about the loopholes that the DEA and DOJ use to justify their raids, which can be understood from both sides. Until the state and federal laws say the same thing, there will always be an argument on the matter. IMO it's stupid that they don't use their resources on grow houses run by gangs/cartels or whatever and instead just go for the easy targets and hit the dispensaries in states where state law says it is legal, but federal says it is illegal. Just a bunch of idiots running around in circles as I see it, doing nothing beneficial for the whole matter of medical marijuana.

Yeah, I just don't understand at all how anyone think its OK to spend this kind of money to lock a few people up. There are people out there that say "well the dispensaries should have known it was federally legal, they are just selling drugs." Well the DEA just wasted ten million taxpayer dollars to bust legally run medicinal access points. If I was running the DEA and I was against marijuana I would be like "What in the fuck are you guys doing wasting that much time and resources to catch a few dispensaries." Someone would be getting fired for sure. How can they be satisfied in what they do? they are not making the US any safer when they do stuff like this.

I wonder if there are lobbyists behind DEA raiding? Plans other than just getting rid of an illegal substance, could pharmaceutical companies be influencing these decisions, in trying to get their patients back or get people to use their drugs?

Most likely yes somewhere some big business is losing out on profits due to peoples choice of using MMJ instead of some pharma medicine. I think it is completely ridiculous that the DEA spends soo much effort, time and money to shut down these dispensaries when there are other drug issues that they should be focusing on. Marijuana also shouldn't be a schedule I drug along with LSD, psilocybin and MDMA and many others that have been shown to have no practical medical uses. MMJ has been proven to be useful in some treatments and helps certain patients so it should be a schedule II or III drug. DEA is ass backwards man.

So basically companies are using our taxes to profit..God damn pharma companies trying to get their patients addicted.

The scheduling is WHACK Methamphetamine and coke is scheduled lower than Marijuana.

I just read this article the other day how this baby had an inoperable brain tumor and it was suggested that they used CBD's to treat the cancer. The doctor said he was really skeptical a few years ago and wasn't sure about the treatment but there weren't really any other options besides Kemo which would have been rigorous and probably would have proven fruitless. The doctor said a miracle happened and the baby's tumor began to shrink so they continued treatment and eventually the tumor disappeared.

Do you really just get high on pot and go on the internet researching pot all day?

No but this is an interesting a reoccurring issue within the country I reside and I like to stay up to date on the issue. Yeah sure I'm more biased for legalization cause I smoke but these issues are ass backwards and I like to stay familiar with the topic and the progress of legalization. The fact that millions of taxpayers dollars are going to fight a loophole in the differences in state and federal law is just retarded.

Some times when I have nothing else to do definitely not all day though. I don't just research pot. Atmospheric sciences, and particle physics, and chemistry are other favorites of mine.

You need to know your cannabis when you grow for the dispensaries and I have been around lots of cannabis in the last few years so I have learned quite a bit from professional growers. Researching, phenotypes and growing techniques interests me because I want my plants to be as good as they get. I am mostly focusing on high CBD strains and a few others like Jack Herer, GDP ect, ect. It takes some knowhow to grow high grade marijuana. Growing good marijuana is a science.

I only smoke on occasion and have slowed down a lot. Its nice to live a balanced life and being stoned all the time isn't something I like to do much anymore. Gotta build a balance in life man, listen to slug.
