What is countersinking?

I was just wondering how to countersink screws or what they are.

I need them for my box so if anyone could explain it that would be great.

its when you drill a conical hole and then put your screw in it so the head of the screw doesnt stick out.

the way you make the countersink holes is with a drill bit that is basically the shape of a small cone with sharp edges. if you go to homedepot or lowes they will have them and they are pretty cheap.

when you use the countersink drill bit, drill a pilot hole with a small regular drill bit to guide it in the right spot so the hole doesnt go in the wrong spot
