What is athleticism

So my friends and I were talkin about this...what exactly does it meant to be athletic?
For example, I was arguing that Tiger Woods is not necessarily athletic, but more just really skilled. Do you think skill is part of athleticism? Or can you be unskilled yet atheltic (i.e. a fast, strong, smart soccer player with weak footskills)? What's your opinions?

Tiger Woods is extremely athletic. He runs like 8 miles a day, lifts weights, etc. To me being athletic means being in good shape or being physically fit.

Being athletic is a trait you pick up from your genes. If you are athletic, you like to compete, you get really pissed when you lose, you pick sports up quickly, and you are generally coordinated.

to be athletic i feel is to have mad controll over your muscles and be in shape

and tiger woods is definitly athleic

if you are athletic you are generally good with everything that has to do with physical activity. (run fast, pretty good at sports you don't even play, etc)

if you are skilled you are just good at the sport you play. like someone may be an amazing baseball player but suck at soccer.

Being skilled at something often also call for good physical condition,

not because you need the muscle power/endurance for the sports, but the

better physical condition you're in the better your mental condition

will be, which you need for concentration, coordination, etc...

@ Alex-G: Athleticism has little to do with being competitive, not every sportsmen/women is into sport for competition.

It's like someone above said, something in your genes, you're just pick up sports real easy and are in a physical condition above average.

Although being athletic doesn't mean the same everywhere. For example here in Belgium you're only an athlete (Atleet in flemish) when you're an athelic's competitor.

yeah i think you misread what i meant by competitive, but what i meant was that they find competing fun, they like to win, and hate to lose, no matter what they are doing.

yea I kinda agree with you. Like if Tiger Woods stepped on to a soccer/football field, hed get rocked. Now if you take an "athlete" like LeBron, he'd probably do pretty damn well in most other sports outside of BBAll
