What is a “serious crash” according to helmet companies?

Yo so I just got a mini concussion with my new smith maze helmet on Friday (still have a head ache today.) I didn’t commit to a trick all the way and landed landed on the left side of my head and my left shoulder. It was Soft snow but a flat landing.

In the past I would’ve not worried about this but I keep hearing you’ve gotta replace your helmet if it sustains a major impact or shows damage. Helmet looks fine. Idk. Not sure if this what a major impact is honestly. What do you guys think is best? And when do you guys replace helmets?

When in doubt, replace it. The styrofoam that helps absorb the impact may be compressed to the point where it will no longer absorb another hit and this amount of compression likely won't be visible.

Dude, you said it yourself. You got a concussion. The helmet is obviously not advised to be used anymore.

Even dropping your helmet on the ground is considered a significant impact in most cases.

Fun fact. I dropped my Bell Moto 8 Helmet off the back of a truck and it was ruined. Those were around $500+. Your ski helmet is most definitely toast.

return that helmet! i think smith replaces them for damage..idk..also dont buy smith helmets, they over charge. EPS, the foam that the helmet is made of is inexpensive. dont waster the 125 bucks on the maze. buy a giro or protec BIKING helmet that has the same properties. they do the same thing and are cheaper.

LMAO miss me with that bike helmet steeze...

As many others have said, when in doubt, replace it. I'm not gonna zipline on cable that I might be frayed, I'm not gonna ski with a helmet that might be damaged. $100 for a new helm is better than brain damage and whatever cost of emergency services would be.

Thanks everyone for the input. I ended up getting a Giro Bevel. So literally one of the cheapest ones you can buy. Weirdly, I already hit my head again and I’m thinking I should get another new helmet. I might even buy the same one. In spite of the price, does the Bevel offer protection similar to much nicer non MIPS helmets?

tbh the maze is not a great helmet to begin with

that sucks about ur head tho

also biffbarf is speaking nothing but facts, now thta the styrofoam is compressed it has sacrificed all protection it once had

Y’all really out here using damaged helmet excuse man this is so lame

your helmet is fine but I can see why you need something to blame for “slowing down” your “park progression”
