We all know that skiing evolved from snowboarding in a huge way, from grabs to off axis rotations and much much more. But does anyone know if snowboarding has progressed and been pushed because of skiers? If so, how? And where?
What has snowboarding taken from skiing?

As for the original question...I guess almost everything. I mean skiing has like a few thousand year head start on snowboarding.

I think people take things from what they see in both sports but I can't think of anything where it's like "Snowboarding absolutely took that from skiing!"

Yeah ok so there is a few things we have acquired from surfing. But is not like Chris Benchelter completely took something from surfing. That design is just something Rob was just mucking around with and it never actually gets used in surfing. The boards they were riding in the video didn't even have it. If your thinking of it that way you could say skiing stole the use of fibreglass off surfing.

plenty of shit that skiers have done was before snowboarders, the whole idea of flatground tricks, some grabs and a good chunk of jump tricks aside from off axis stuff were done in the 70s. Whether or not snowboarders took inspiration from these or created them on their own is debateable though. Freeskiing was evolving basically at the same time as modern skateboarding, just in a completely isolated world (which ended up being shat on by FIS)

Yeah I know mate. Surfing has used that shape before. I've been surfing my whole life, am far better at surfing than skiing. I've also worked as a surfboard shaper. All I can say is that i've never seen a board with that shape.
Far different to skiing taking twin tip designs from snowboarding. It makes me wonder if anyone has tried putting channels on skis. Maybe they could have an advantage in powder. (or not?) But from experience channelled surfboards are faster for sure.

I don't know if some butter tricks were a thing in snowboarding before skiers started to do them. I think the two sports are sort of co-evolving recently. I mean both are shreding the same parks with the same features and both will notice it when the other group does something rad and will start thinking about doing something similar on their hardware of choice.
