What happened to salomon?!

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me. Like what the actual fuck happened to salomon? They used to be one of the biggest names in the freeride and freestyle world and now they don’t even make a twin tip ski! Like have they just said “fuck it we’re just gonna make old people skis” in my opinion they don’t have anything decent out right now but maybe their boots.

They sponsor a ton of people to show off their shifts and qsts for touring. And racers too. Sucks they dont make any twin tips though

U fuckin duster

If you ever come on this website and say this Solomon “fell off” nonsense again, you will regret it severely. Solomons sexy sticks are forever at the top of the game and don’t you ever forget it

They do still have the NFX and handful of park skiers on the roster, but their involvement is definitely far less than it was around the 2010 era. Might've just got outshined by other companies and then their freeski side of things wasn't doing as well as racing?

But its interesting they really grew and went in on the snowboard side of things, but weird considering so many boarders are like "its a ski brand!!!"

My theory: too much overlap in product profile among Amer sports. They have Armada and Atomic. No need for Salomon to crank out park skis. Plus, frenchies go ape shit for the whole tech touring euro scene.

They probably said “go crazy. Throw your $$ into touring and sidecountry development. Lean into it”.

I can see that! I guess in my mind I view them all as their own brands even tho they’re owned by amer

They make the only boot that actually fits my foot well so I will never shit talk them until they take it away from me. Actually their plastic for boots is pretty not great but damn the S Max 130 is such a nice boot for low volume feet.

They were on top of the park skiing market in the golden era. The SPK, the G suit, the magic suit, the dumont, the entire 1080 series and even though it’s famous for another reason the edge armor suspects and dumont.

Maybe they like profits.

They probably weren’t turning a profit. Haven’t seen a pair of Salomons in the wild in years. They made boring standard park skis and couldn’t adapt to the sports evolution away from X-games and energy drinks.

If they made more skis like the rocker 2 100s and fired whoever designs their graphics they might have fared better.

Simon Dumont interviewed their team and rifer sponsorship guy, who is an attorney, on his podcast. The guy in no uncertain terms said Salomon is entirely done with freestyle. This was like last year.

Big brands like Salomon make decisions based on money/profit. If something isn't making them money, they won't bother with it.

I wanted to add that the old SPK boots were the most comfortable boots I have ever used. For only having 2 buckles they were super well performing too IMO

I was just in the shop thinking about this thread and reflecting on the time I got a 1-1 sit down with the former president of Salomon North America. He had previously spoken to one of our classes about how he had become president by telling the bosses in France that they were doing it all wrong in USA and he could do it better. So they fired the staff and he took over.

Anyways, I knew the president of the university and I was telling him how much I enjoyed the story I heard (the Salomon guy was on the board for the school I believe) and that I’d love to get to know him more. The university president, much credit to him - love that guy, arranged a meeting with us in his office.

Biggest letdown. The guy proceeded to tell me it’s not worth it to get into retail or any sort of outerwear/ski manufacturing and that it’s better to get into finance. Total numbers guy. I walked out of that meeting pretty irritated tbh.

Naw bro u dont even know bro. Core brands are taking over bro. Just u wait bro. Sillymon finna be playing catchup since they dont have cryptic smiley face graphics bro. They don't have a single ski to compete with Wets bro. They don't even sell Full Tilts bro

kinda biased to say their new freeride skis aren't good, but it's hard for me to believe they used to make stuff like this:
