What happened at Mount Hood last summer?

Looking at Windells and summer park rats edits, I noticed that since I was there (Session 5 2012 represent) there was a huge decline in snow base for the summer. Was the snow farming insufficient? What happened?

Mount Hood had about 5% of the normal snowpack when I was there for WCS in May. They just didn't get a ton of snow last year, like most resorts. I have a feeling you might live under a rock.

Anyways, this year they've gotten at least 2-3 times more snow than they did all of last year and its only february. It should be a good summer.

just asking... ps eat shit chubz.

All ski gabber was this summer was a bunch of threads about how there wasnt any snow on hood. It barely snowed in the pnw last winter...it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out why there was a low snowpack. Bad winters = even worse summers.

Their marketing team decided to pull out of park skiing and concentrate and the growing market of big mountain and powder skiing. Due to this they shipped all the snow down to South America for the summer.

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is was actually happened. OP, all these people telling you it didn't snow much last year don't know what they're talking about... It's all corporate economics and the snow goes where the money goes, simple as that.

"snow farming insufficient?" what the fuck is snow farming, snow comes from the sky and then snowcats push it around, not much else happens

It's when you plant snow seeds. Plant them in the spring and they are ready for summer.

For the record, "snow farming" is when you use a snowcat to push a field of rows, snow walls basically, which then catch wind-blown snow and allow you to collect snow more quickly.

OP, quite obviously it was the snowfall itself, not snow farming, that was insufficient last year. Snow farming definitely helped the meager snowpack last for as long as it did, though.
