mine is dvd shrink 3.2 and i have had zero problems with it.

well I have handbrake for Mac. It works pretty well, and i only suggest it because you said what's best for using it to then put into an editing program. Handbrake lets you rip the movie into a mp4 format, and then i can just import it into Final Cut.
