What does core even mean?

Can anyone describe core without using anything related to skiing?

I was trying to describe this to a non skier friend and I couldn't come up with anything outside of Vishnu wets, riding skis way too long, wearing overpriced hoodies and acting poor with rich parents.

are people actually calling shit core un-ironically? Like I've made plenty of core jokes but those are jokes

I mean its basically a stupid meme word now but imo a brand is core if it's run by people who do the same activity (ex. Skiing) as the people who buy their stuff. And the brand is directly involved in that community.

Tell me something boy

arnt you tired tryna fill that void

or do you need more

aint it hard keeping it so hardcore

done. There ya go that’s what the word means

I think core actually is a legit thing in skiing, it’s described as someone or something that’s atta he’d to the sound community of skiing, so you could say oh that brands core becuSe they contribute a lot back to what skiing truly is and care about the sport. Or saying somebody is core could mean that they rep those brands and support company’s trying to promote the soul of skiing

Does your money go to making skis and paying skiers or to a conglomerate that makes also sells camp stoves mini bikes and tennis rackets?

Y’all absolutely obliterated the word this year. It’s beyond repair. Previously, core was moreso an adjective for a brand. I don’t really see individuals as core, or certain actions as core.

Skiing in the rain and dropping out of college don’t have shit to do with it lol.

Brands that come from the skiing we do AND support the skiing we do are core.

Core means the centre part of the ski that provides the structural support and contributes to the flex profile. Cores are usually made of a strong but flexible wood like maple, birch, or bamboo, but in the past foam was also a frequently used core material.

Kids that use core un-ironically are definitely the acting poor with rich parents types. Who cares. Ski what you want and how you want. Fuck anyone who judges you for your own style

Bro it never just revolved around brands don't be a dork lmao

to be core is to maintain the norms and traditional values of a given community or culture. to have a claim to legitimacy within a non-public community

Skiing in the rain and dropping out of college don’t have shit to do with it lol because those aren’t the arbitrary values I chose years ago when I decided what “core” meant to skiing.

Brands (like mine) that come from the skiing we do AND profits from it are core.

Lol, fixed the post for u.

Dude ong tho, I swear there’s a new definition of core every year. Like if you’re a skier who loves the sport and is really bout it then you’re core. Doesn’t matter how you interpret trends, spend your money or chase your dream. If you’re out there chasing clips, linking the hill with your friends on the weekend, or get butterflies when you see first snow then you’re probably core af, don’t let Dan or NS tell you otherwise.

Once you know core you know whats core, you cant know until you watch about 1000 ski edits. You’ll start to see a big difference between in why skiers make their edit, the reason the film was made. its like skateboarding. Kooks worship nyjah where more core skaters look up to underground skaters with better style. Like think about what skiers you mention when youre trying to explain how you want to do a trick, is it mostly comp skiers, or stylin film skiers. Not that skiers cant be both thats the most badass when they do it all in my opinion. if all you know is comp skiers and tight fitting ski gear watch a bunch of old ski edits, slvsh games, and realski parts to find out whats core. Its about keeping skiing real, and gangsta. No fake shit, no one wants to see an inspirational edit anymore, most people can see how much work goes into an edit by the quality of the content. I feel much more inspired by most gutter than any warren miller film. That shit went hard af and is in fact core

core is the center. maybe like center of focus what someone or some company does. you are core if the center of focus is skiing.

I like this explanation the best. Short, simple, and well put.

it sounds like we have a lot of exterior people here

My thoughts too. Made me realize how many ppl are actually core are how many ppl act like they’re core

^This. Being core is being the center of whatever you do. The earth has a core. An apple has a core, as do many fruits.

It's silly as hell that mfs think literally any equipment in this industry is designed by people who don't ski and/or are completely out of touch with the modern ski industry.

Skiing gear (and action sports equipment in general) isn't some wildly lucrative industry that people go into with the goal of getting rich asf. It's not investment banking or pharma or consulting or social media or automobiles or video games. People go into the industry because it's a job they actually give a shit about, and they want their occupation to be giving back to something they're actually interested in, instead of doing the same work for an industry that they really don't gaf about.

It's one thing to appeal to tourist/rich skiers, and to not appeal to the park/freeskiing "cult", but literally no brand does what you said.
