What does blowing out your knee feel like?

I've been lucky enough to never suffer a knee injury (Knock on wood), but I'm hoping someone can share some insight on how painful that experience would be.

confusing. I cased a lil', backseat (classic) and in my case I didn't hear a pop by leg just really hurt so I laid on my back and slid down the landing (not a huge fall or anything). Popped off my bindings with my hands and when I stood up my knee gave out and then I started swearing because I was mad and defs knew what had happened.

first ever ski patrol ride though wooo!!

Having already had 4 knee surgeries I can say that it is very different every time, but I knew immediately every time that it was gone. Meniscus feels like a little pop, then a burning pain. ACL/MCL is more sharp with a loss of strength. Contrary to popular belief you can still function with a blown knee for a while, but that bitch will swell up like a balloon the next morning

I blew out my mcl on a dirt bike and felt it right away. I didn't know that's what it was, and never went to the doctor for it, but I knew it was bad. Maybe because I couldn't put any weight on it for like five days. But when it happened I couldn't put it back into place for like ten seconds and the whole time it's this scary grinding feeling as it wiggles around all loose. You can feel the bone grind and resonate up to your pelvis. But it feels like a sharp almost burning pain similar to when you stretch your muscles. But it feels more internal. I've dislocated my knees in different directions and they all feel a little different but that's the general feeling if that helps

I was 6 (maybe 7) years old when I dislocated my knee. It poped right back in the same crash I hurt it in. Can´t really remember too much though

after knuckling a fairly large jump at canyons last year...tearing an ACL feels kind of like someone shoved a metal rod up the middle of your leg right after the impact...and then after that you feel most of the pain in the back of your leg, like someones yanking on the rest of your knee ligaments every time you walk. and then after surgery you basically have to learn how to use your knee and quad muscle again and its a very weird sensation. that is my experience.

i did it twice. when i tore my acl, it was just like a pop, but i skiied down to lift before it started hurting and swelling. second time, i overshoot a fairly big jump and did meniscus and acl. it feels warm inside your knee and bones immediately. later, every movement hurts very bad. fuck, it gets me down everytime i think about it.

What sort of things can you do to stop something like that happening then, after reading this I really don't want to blow my knee.

Wow....solid post. What are you 12 years old? Ohh yea....you probably are. Man....the op just asked what it feels like to blow out your knee. And he gets responses of broccoli, carrots, and shoving shafts down his throat. This place never ceases to amaze.

Extreme pain, im sure its different for others...i've blown out both knees and the first one was skiing and I thought I broke my leg, couldnt move or put any weight on it...the second one I didnt notice the exact time I did it, it was just painful to move around.

my mcl was a weird pop and some pain. i knew i tore something immediately, i heard it and my brother heard it. i tried to put some weight on it to ski down and immediately fell over in pain. couldnt move my knee and barely walk around that day until i got some crutches. definitely not as bad as when i dislocated my shoulder though

Loss of strength is accurate. I remember trying to walk on it after an even if you deal with the pain and it just doesn't work. Honestly though tearing my thumbnail off was more painful when it happened

Squats, dead lifts and leg presses. Work out your legs and stabilizer muscles and you will be able to withstand much more pressure before something catastrophic happens.

Has anyone hear torn an ACL and also dislocated a shoulder and torn their labrum? I've never had a knee injury but I did dislocate my shoulder and tear my labrum and it was the most painful experience of my life. My shoulder was out of its socket for 5+ hours and they couldn't give me any morphine at the hospital because I had drugs in my system from the night before.

yeah honestly the pain of doing it wasn't really that bad. I finished out a seven on seven game with a blown knee the first time I did it. I was SO pissed at our shitty trainer, I walked up to him and said "i'm pretty positive I just blew out my knee" and he took literally 10 seconds and said it was fine. Next day I get the test results back and its a torn acl and meniscus. Honestly the pain was MUCH worse post surgery, couldn't really sleep or move.

my knee felt like it wobbled side to side in a way that should never be felt. It made me really sick to my stomach. I over shot a 35ft jump to dead flat stomped a three and my left knee just wobbled and gave out i fell after it wobbled and knew instantly what happened shit sucked dude.

I was at soccer practice and stepped in a hole. My kneecap poped out of place and I basically stretched my mcl to the max. My doctor said it was basically doing nothing. It was a very weirded feeling because my leg just felt super wobbly if I didn't have my brace on. It was kinda fun to play with my kneecap though when it stopped hurting though:p
