What do you think when you see a gaper.

what do you think/say when you see a kid in the park who is dressed like a park rat, and just rides through the park not hittin any jumps, rails, boxes, etc.

Also before this starts a "gapers wearing saga/fulltilt/driving Toyota trucks" let's just not mmkay.

If the kid is kinda iffy bout hitting features give him some tips, if he's snow plowing around off lips of rails or under knuckles tell him to gtfo.

I pull a Da'Hui and beat him up in the lift line before attempting to drown him, all while screaming "LOCALS ONLY" at the top of my lungs

So I have a gaper story.

I just got back from the mountain, pretty pissed at this gaper dad that I saw...he saw me in the park just doing my thing, he gives me a dirty look than unloads his pockets full of trash (empty cigarette pack, candy wrappers etc.) and just throws it all over the drop in and than skis off. I didn't really have time to react the way I should have. Dude needs a beating...But being just another "douchey" park rat, I went over and picked it all up and turned it into the lift shack and tossed it out. The lifty said he would pull his pass if he saw him again though, so at least that. Motherfuckin gapers man...

Piss the dad off so he does something worse and gets his pass pulled haha

You obviously did the right thing, but I would have went up to him and said excuse me sir I think you dropped this and walked away.

I see a guy who recently discovered skiing, who probably got really excited about it because he realized that skiing is the most fun thing ever. So he goes home and looks up skiing on the internet cause he's hyped, and finds newschoolers and thinks its pretty cool, and buys the gear that newschoolers says he should buy because he's excited to become a member of the community and because he wants to support these cool companies that he never knew existed before.

Then the kids at the mountain laugh at him for not being good at the sport he started a month ago and they ostracize him. He never had anyone to ski with Weiss any good, and he gets bored and quits.

You seem like you're familiar with this

So long as they don't clog up the park, I don't really mind.

I hate it when you have people just go off the rollers taking ages and you have to wait for them to get out. It makes my blood boil.

But really who cares...

To be honest, I like gapers more than I do the goggle-under-helmet/Saga-Jibberish/Full Tilt wearing motherfuckers who probably go on Newschoolers and just talk about gapers all day. Those are the people who make my blood boil.

As long as they know their role and stay off the landing, they're perfectly fine in my book. I hope they get comfortable and start hitting rails and throwing spins soon someday.

I love it when "gapers" throw down too. My friend who got me into park skiing dressed like one. Granted he was cheap and broke as fuck and was an ex ski racer so obviously very good and not a gaper depending on your definition, but I guarantee he is a better skier than 95% of the people on here who rip on gapers. He threw cork 9s, butters, hand drag 540s over lips, flips, 270s onto rails, drop massive cliffs into thick trees, and never once filmed or thought about making an edit. Some people just ski for the love of the activity, but it seems like that's a foreign concept on here, it's way more about the appearance...

Reading this made me sad

I don't really give a shit because I'm not an inconsiderate asshole, unlike fucking 13 year old OP.

yep sums it up

what about if you wear all the stuff you see some park rats wearing like, goggles under helmet, short poles, baggy clothes and such but the kid is a really good skier but is just beginning to learn in the park what would you guys think, i met an inconsiderate fuck that told the kid to fuck off and go back to his mommy and i honestly wanted to beat the shit outta the guy...

what would you guys think about a kid like that?

i know i was kinda that kid coming from being an ex racer but i got super interested in park skiing and WITH MY OWN MONEY bought park gear. when a guy that was good came up to me and helped me out i was super stoked and made me feel great! so now whenever i see someone like that i try and help them out :).

you just described me two years ago...

other from the just starting skiing and i didn't quit i'm still not amazing but love the sport!

to the people that burn on kids that aren't great in the park and with good gear just remember its hard for them to start something new also.... they don't just show up and hit 30 ft jumps there first time in the park they have to have some nerve to start into a new sport like skiing especially if they came from a sport they were really good at so just give them a break.

"At least I'm not the worst here!"

But I do feel bad for them to some extent, is 100% garunteed they know they can't hit park features but dress like it.

Here at Glen Eden everyone is gaper, so kids who aren't get made fun of for being "good" weird world here in Ontario

Went through the park at Giants Ridge, there was a family skiing on the side of the jumpline but the dad made them all stop on the knuckle of the second jump- out of the way though so that I could hit the jump. I took this opportunity to try and throw down for the little kids, sent a carved 5 to the thug zone, an edge tore off and my knees gave out.

I wear Saga and Vertika and I just ski through the park? I know park edicate and used to ski a lot of park but can no longer ski park due to injuries but I still love to watch my homies do their thing. I guess I'm a gaper.

i guess im too nice to em theres this kid brand new infamouses and like everything shiny and new and expensive but he knuckels 5ft kickers and slips out shiftying boxes and always cuts me off but i still try and help

i think of "there's gnarRat still chilling beside that box" "oh shit he finally hit it"

im mostly bumping chairs when i see jerries, so my thoughts are along the lines of:

"im really hungry"

"hey, i have those boots"

"this lift is too loud"

"im really cold"

"my feet hurt"

"tfw no cutie pie skier girl GF to cuddle with after work :("

Everyone starts off as a gaper in some way. No one starts skiing and immediately has style and is good. It takes time and effort to become good and steezy. Everyone on newschoolers that complains about gapers started out as one. We should encourage new people entering the sport not put them down. Obviously no one likes the obnoxious gapers, but there are just as obnoxious park riders, so we really shouldn't complain.

I think "I bet half the skiers in this park are judging that kid who's just trying to learn, get a feel for the scene" although I also can't stand the obnoxious gapers who snake me and then just go over the knuckle instead of hitting the jump, what we really need is instead of having these signs saying "cautions dangerous terrain" and "obstacles ahead" and stupid shit like that which no one reads, we need a sign at the top of the park with ettiquette rules such as "no snaking, person who arrived at the top of the jump goes first and then the next person and so on" and "no hitting lips of jibs unless you plan on using the rail/box" and "no standing in landings (you will get hurt)" that kind of thing would be far more useful and stop a lot of the problems were getting, along with the assholes trying to get new learning kids out of the park.

End of rant, most of us wouldn't be able to ski without the gapers and one week warriors paying the big bills to the ski resorts. Be graitful that there are gapers!

13 year old Kid who rides at my park lookes like the biggest gaper ever... I thought he must have sucked but he was actually real good especially on rails. Like he can do flips of side hits and shit but hes crazy on rails... he did a switch 270 on Britney on a triple kink. He doesn't even purposely dress like that but its real annoying when I throw down and then he comes right after me and does something way better looking like a gaper. lol

I currently am the kid who is on newschoolers with 2014 volkl ledges and is learning park. I actually started to learn boxes about midway through the season but my park took out all of the starter rails so I never learned those yet. I just decided to go from 10 foot booters to 30-40 footers and called it a season. I even get annoyed with myself being the kid in the park not hitting everything. My cover up sometimes is i bring mu gopro and film friends (i bought my gopro before i got into skiing). Oh it was also my second season so I may be lacking skills but in ohio you get a ton of laps. You cant get any speed because the runs last 10 seconds.

I dont know how to get around the "1 week warrior" thing since I dont live near a mtn and therefore have to travel around

I mostly find small hills/rails in my town near my house
