What do you suggest for a first car?

Alright so I'll be turning 17 in April and I'm starting to save for my first car. I was looking at Subaru 2.5 rs' but wanted to know what cheap cars you might recommend. Keep in mind I make 7.50 and will probably only have about $2,500-3,000.

i'd say one of the recent jettas used cuz they got good space for skis, look nice and do good in snow

In before STI/WRX/EVO/AUDI.....not only are those NOT good first cars, they are also expensive.

Anyway, if you can find something older like a Suby with AWD that would be a great car, beware of headgaskets occasionally though. For a first car, I would say anything you can find that is AWD or 4WD and has ABS would be an excellent first car.

honda civic or prelude, all the people i know who have them love them, and some of the people i know who don't have them want them.

Get a piece of shit that you wont care about and trash it for a few years then get a nicer car when you go to college or graduate- I got a not so shitty car and fucked it up and now I am stuck with it till I can afford to buy my own car.... my 2centstho

go with a b5 audi a4. i dont know if you are planning on making it fast but if you are look at the 1.8t and put a bigger turbo on. if not i wouold go with the 2.8. i have an audi a4 2.8 and it is so much fun to drive. And the quattro AWD is amazing in the snow (better than subarus)

and ya this guy's right my dad has an a4 and it's probably the best near bottom of the line car out there for any company. and audi invented 4WD. thats why it's better than everyone else's

i got a subaru legacy and its so sick. theres room for all your shit and its an awesome winter car

I would suggest talking to your parents. Ask them to get you a audi a3 tdi. I'm getting one. And i'm honestly super stoked because it gets 50 mpg on the highway.

Actually the AWD system subaru has is far superior to the Audi AWD system. Unfortunately, their AWD system is only superior when it is equipped with the 4EAT (4 speed electronic automatic transmission) that comes on the higher end legacies and the WRX...so it is not very common. However, with the abilities of the 4EAT to maneuvor power to any wheel on the fly in a split second makes it actually up there as one of if not the best AWD system on the market.

If you get a manual though than the audi is better.

buy my outback, im trying to sell it pm me. awesome first car, its got 120,000 miles on it and subes are obviously the best ski car one can buy.

TDI's are boss... if youre looking to spend between 2500 and 3000 tho i would look at a VW rather than an Audi.. theyre cheaper cuz you arent paying for the 4 rings on the grille and have lots of the same stuff ('cept AWD) but if you toss on some decent snow tires you ll do just fine plus blowing black smoke out the back of a jetta is just boss

yeah there both sick. the official epa is like 40 on both of vw jetta tdi and audi a3 tdi but they really get around 50. the vw is honestly probably a little better on gas than the audi. Both insanely sick german cars. the engine drops down making it safer too.

good luck finding one of those in good condition for a price hes looking to pay. i really wanted one before i got my jeep, but its just a pain in the ass to find a good one for cheap.
get a cherokee. easy to work on, bomb in the snow and you can beat the piss out of them without worrying about your engine or tranny going on you. heres mine

Regardless, they're ridiculously cool.I think it's worth searching for one, however, if the search is ongoing and too long, I would agree with the choice of a Cherokee and would also throw in an older 4Runner or other Toyota truck.

The nicest honda civic/accord or toyota corolla/camry you can find. You might also be able to find a subaru or two for that money.

Keep it cheap and efficient IMO.

Honda Civic. Cheap, stupidly reliable, easy to live with. Easy to drive too, the clutch is wonderful, such a short throw its a breeze to bang through the gears at 6kRPM. And you can do that, because you can beat the shit out of these things forever and they just won't give.

If you get an itch for speed, you can always rice it out. Take the power steering out, the AC, etc. This won't make you go any faster really, but that +2HP boost will make you feel REALLY COOL.

VTEC is almost like a turbo, sort of. WIN!

You want something AWD? You can slap a B20 engine in that bitch (with a little cutting and some fandangaling), and bam! You got an AWD Civic. Alternatively, if you want to be JP ONRY Drift King, you can do the same thing, and then cut power to the front axle. Now you got a RWD Civic. People tend to do this to Integras though.

If you want to impress chicks, you can get a Civic Del Sol. Sure its only got two seats, but, its a convertible. Now, you may not believe this, but if you are 16, any convertible is cool, even if its a piece of shit, trust me. However if you are 18+, this will not work at all, unless you are still aiming for girls under that age range in which case you are a PEDOPHILE.

Not sure if that whole post is jokes or what, but regardless the del sol is a targa top not a true convertible. Still cool though.

oh and of course I would suggest an old yota truck or suby for winter driving to the mountian. Although front wheel drive ain't bad either and civics really are reliable and hardly ever need work.

some type of hold honda or toyota.. will last you forever and is also really easy to fix/maintain

you don't need some dope car for your first car, thats bullshit

Hahahahahahahhahaha VTEC is in no way like having a turbo but the rest of the post is perfect and Civics are good, cheap first cars.

old subie or volvo station wagon.
My friend got a volvo for 4,000 and put 110000 miles on it before it died. Another friend got a subie for $700 put about $300 into and has gone over 20,000.
Save your $$ for a down payment on a nicer car when you go to college (your second year of college preferably, you can save a lot of money making people drive you around your first year)

i dont know if ide do this. making a down payment after your freshmen year in college. at this point you probably dont have much or any money. unless mommy and daddy are paying for it.

buy a car and drive it into the ground. maybe im somewhat weird, but i wouldnt want car payments and college tuition when i could just drive the same POS i had before.

thread creator, i would get a 4 door car with lower miles on it, you would be surprised what 3k can buy you. just dont get impulsive, look around if you have the luxury of time.

Try to find an old (85ish) toyota tercel wagon. you cant go wrong. You will never have to put a dollar into it except for gas and mabye some oil, but only top the oil up never change it. The oil get better with age in this machine. You should be able to find one for $500 and spend the extra cash on new ski gear cause thats what you really want.
