the way i see it is wentworth (or any one of the maritime hills) need to take their next step in snow management in the terrain parks. when we say features do we meam just rails, boxes and walls...not in my opinion...blow more, maintain the snow more. those are the two real things that we lack here..our climate is fine for park and pipe, we just need the hills to look at setting a better, more discipline approach on building and maintaining features. at any hill that puts substancial focus on their park view poorly made and maintained features as bad as having mud and grass on a gs run. Until the right people become better educated on parks and pipe we will continue to ride parks that are the same all year with minimum maintainance..but remeber..if you can rip our poor parks, you'll be amazed at what you can do in smooth flowy parks that existed virtually everywhere in the world now. the real down side it is hard to progress on features that are intiminating not for their size or purpose, but for their poor setups and consequences..
if i was to take an average table day at any nova scotia hill it takes me nearly an hour or more just to get comfortable with needed speed (cause the trannys are so hit and miss) and my basic tricks. by the time i would hit a few trick i feel comfortable the landing would rut and ruin or my body saw enough impact for a day. in other areas, some that i was lucky enough to travel to last year...you could ski all day on the mountain and then at 3pm go to the park and with soar legs and sun going down the park was safe and FUN to session because the features would be solid and well designed to last all day. then after everyday groomers would fix any small inperfections to maintain the parks appeal, safety and quality.
progression rates have blown to new heights in our sport, and its all do to what is built in your own terrain parks...big safe features = big sweet tricks. small poor features = difficulty for easy tricks.
in all i do expect wentworth and martock to go forward agian this year, and we should all try to recommend out knowledgable suggestions when we can..write an e-mail to your local hill, talk with staff members and groomer guys. our thoughts are valid if we express them in a professional manner. if you all like parks and pipes that are built just to build them dont say anything or worry about..but i feel if there going to build them they should make them as rider friendly as possible - jjjibs
