What do you drive to the hill?

Curious what vehicles you guys use to get where you need to go... looking into trading my RWD bimmer in for something that can actually take me to the mountain, so I can stop borrowing my roomies Jeep...

any ideas? (trying to keep it relatively cheap, but I found some nasty deals on Jeeps, and even LR3s)

(to the mods: sry, I wasn't sure if this was ski-related... or not... feel free to move me if you want)

well, those two things below my knees do the job for me. and for going far: i dont own a car, but our vw passat is pretty much doing its job

1999 Chevy Silverado
But if you are looking for something cheap, either a jeep or a Ford Bronco will do the trick. Hell even a little 4wd S-10 if your willing to spend a bit more.

2003 VW GTI 1.8T It does alright in the snow but my next car will definataly be 4wd. VW R32 or Subaru STI

Jeep Grand Cherokee baby. With heated leather seats and no heat or defroster. Windshield turning to ice on the highway so you have to drive with your head out the window in 20 degree weather = WIN.

Really anything AWD with snow tires. But you NEED to make sure you have good tires. That's the most important. A really nice computer smart AWD car is still going to crash into shit if it has summer tires on it. And, AWD does nothing when your going downhill, it's all tires. From my expierence Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60s are the best snow tires ever. I have never lost control on snow with them. I look for the steepest, snow covered hills to go up/down, just because they grip like nobody's business.

We actually have a few inches of snow on the ground right now, and I have been snow drifting all day. I live around LOT of steep hills, and always feel confident on any surface with my WS-60s. I've tried my Toyo Proxes 4s in the snow, and I just slid out of control down any amount of hill.
