Hello,
Good morning, and congratulations on your snowstorm.
I see that Brighton and Solitude reported basically 5-8 inches of snow. Meanwhile Alta and Snowbird reported 13-15 inches of snow.
Now I ask what do you do today because there are a few factors here...
1) Road closure on LCC and 4x4 mandatory on LCC (BCC road suffers less from this it seems)2) Traffic up LCC3) ambitious crowds looking for the goods4) etc
I've always hit up LCC after a snowstorm and its been great, but I always wonder.....was it an even more epic pow day at Solitude?
I have been to Solitude and Brighton - but not during or after a dump. And I was just looking to get some opinions here.
Also keep in mind that Snowbasin and Pow Mow got a heavy amount of snow too. And The Canyons......wtf?

I would love to be at Solitude today, not sure what they have open, but its always a good time for Pow. && Brighton you can get freshies all day long, plus they have all their lifts running. Haven't even bothered going to any LCC resorts the past couple years. Keep the Brighton hate coming, more pow for the rest of us. As for Canyons, I don't know what they were thinking, but that definitely sucks for those of you who ride there.

i also wonder because of the fact lcc area places have to keep like east castle, and other portions closed for avy danger, and it sounds like solitude/brighton just doesnt have these kinds of problems

There has been alot of wind with this storm, alta only reported 6" last night and snowbird reported 14" and the snowcam shows like 1". Im sure brighton got just as much as alta/snowbird it really all depends on where it was measured. Alta tends to under and over report depending on the time of year, but we truly wont know how much was at alta/snowbird and brighton/solitude until people come back and report.

As for your question, alta/snowbird have the large amount of terrain while brighton has a decent amount of terrain and lots of slack country (easy access BC) I will always recommend LCC over BCC but im bias.

Im pretty sure Solitude is 100% open. I was up there Wed and Fri last week and was told Honeycomb was opening on Sat, and there was bootpack going up Fantasy Ridge... Both days I was there were epic. My roommate is up there now, I'll let you know how it went.

I was just fielding this question to see if anyone says "fuck that traffic, im going up the BCC instead"
Why are you bias on LCC > BCC? Do you just know all the spots in LCC?

brighton is fun as hell.

alta is also of course. its all about where you know of the stashes and the crowds at each. I haven't rreally done lcc too much but from what it seems you are competing a bit more for snow.

I'm bias because I have had an alta pass all 4 seasons ive been in utah now and love skiing at alta, i feel like you can't really know a resort until you've skied it a couple of season at it. Brighton has some cool shit but honestly i'd rather ski at alta any day. The traffic sucks but guess what? Everyone is stuck in it and unless you live at alta you're suck in the traffic like everyone else, the key is to get towards the front. like 80% of the people going up the canyon are going to snowbird so its NBD for me.

today I rode Alta, and had a class cancelled... twas phenomenal and really not that many people there, far left on wildcat was way dope and fresh til I left... I am loving this early season pow, the base its providing, and the positive vibes about this season that I fell. Shits getting serious boys

Like I said I never have given Solitude or Brighton a chance during a dumping day. I've been in LCC 75% of the time it seems like while in SLC - and I have just always wondered as I sat in traffic on the way down if there were much better things happening in the next canyon over.
I think this year im just going to not be a pussy and ski 4everrrrrrr. Like wake up way before dawn to begin with to get breakfast and snacks for the day all in order so that way I can miss the exodus of vehicles on wasatch blvd and be waiting for the gate to open at like 8:00 A.M and pray that its not a 4x4 day and I have to wait for a bus (cause my girlfriend won't hitch hike up a canyon where Ted Bundy may have step foot many years ago.......).......than ride till all the lifts in LCC are shut down that you want to ride. Than go to Brighton to see what they have for night skiing

Definitely seemed like a windy storm at Snowbird little cloud had no snow it all blew into the cirque ha

Well that pretty much concludes it.
Despite the generally more impressive lift system (Solitude, Brighton), less traffic, less avalanche closures, less competition over pow, smaller lines.......
People still choose Snowbird / Alta
Atleast I know I am making the right choice. Although I have to be fair to Solitude and Brighton. I am ATLEAST checking brighton out once for night skiing, another day there, and another day at Solitude.
If I get free passes to a park city area resort I will ski there also, but to be honest I will just plan on camping out more in LCC.
If anyone here has the patience to show someone from the midwest around BCC (or LCC) I will be in town Dec 28th - Jan 5th.
I always bring hookers and blow

i went to alta this morning and had one of the funnest days skiing of my life. seemed like everything got tracked quick, but if you were willing to walk a bit there was alot of snow on some of the faces

i still cant believe that they only got that little snow. my house in the upper aves got 20inches for shits sake

Going to Utah for the 3rd time skiing this winter. Dec 28th - Jan 5th. I have Snowbird passes that cannot be used between the 26th - Jan 2nd and DV passes that also follow the same restrictions.
28 - brighton night skiing29 - solitude (avoid xmas crowds at Brighton)30 - brighton31 - alta1 - alta2 - BLANK SPOT DUDE3 - deer valley4 - snowbird5 - snowbird
I've been tossing this spot around a lot. 3rd day alta, 3rd day snowbird..never been to pow mow/basin

to be honest the best days you're gonna have are the days that it snows if you're just plannin a trip like that

then quit plannin on coming out here and skiing resorts..come out here with some avy gear hire a tour guide and really go experience the wasatch

yo man i dont think i can get you a pass factory, they are really cutting us on passes this year so i have to use them wisely, sorry man i still might but not sure.

if your coming out here for a week why not ski the resorts? why spend money on a guide and avy gear when you have some of the dopest terrain you can ski in bounds at your access?

factory your trip sounds dope. your gona have a blast
