What do I do with my skis if the same chunk keeps coming out

Chunk on the edge of one of my skis came out after the edge had been epoxied a while ago. Got it epoxied again so that it'll work for the rest of the season, but that's expensive and it's likely to blow out again at some point. Should I learn to DIY epoxy and just keep doing that until the rest of the skis are also busted up, or what? I don't know much at all about ski health

Paying for ski repairs at shops is almost cost prohibitive. Maybe for a good base weld but working with Ptex and epoxy (use G Flex) is pretty easy if you're even slightly handy. Especially on park skis that are going to get damaged repeatedly it's totally worth it to learn DIY repair techniques.

Just get some new ones, u owe it to urself to not worry about shit like that. If the epoxy holds then ski em. But if it’s not working anymore just gotta let em go

Yeah no question. Went to a shop recently cuz I'm in college and don't really have a space to work with that stuff, although I'm also kinda too lazy to take 30 minutes and research how to use it. I'm graduating soon and hopefully wherever I move to I can find a space to work with that stuff.

How beat up can a pair of skis get until they're no longer viable as big mountain skis?

You don't need space other than like being able to lay the ski on the ground/ a desk overnight.

Learn to do it yourself and you'll spend a shitton less money on skis every year

This is such horrible advice.

You will spend so much more money cause your skis will get "destroyed" if you don't simply fix them.

Taking 20 minutes to epoxy something will make a ski last for days and days longer of skiing in most cases.

Bro I seen it before, you’re constantly re doing the epoxy. You can’t truly ski with confidence anymore bcs you’re babying the ski all day. I mean, If that doesn’t sound unappealing then yeah, sure bad advice on my end. But I think skiers should treat themselves when the time comes. Makes for such a better experience.

who is babying their fucked up skis? Fix em, ski em, and fuck em up again, repeat this cycle approximately 1-50 times a season.

Lollll if only. It really ain’t hard to save up 400 bones in the off season my guy… getcha bread up ?

Naw I just know how to save as much "bread" as possible lol. Rather spend $400 on a trip out west than a pair of skis because my old skis were "fucked"

I ski with great confidence on my “fucked up” skis because I know how to fix them and save money. And even If epoxy falls out it won’t kill your skis in a day.

by the way I spend 25 bucks a season on epoxy. It’s not expensive. I maybe apply new epoxy once every 2 weeks (I ride 4 days a week) so it’s not a pain in the ass.

as someone who works at a shop the stuff the tech uses ranges from jb weld five minute to marine epoxy depending on time and stuff- get some west systems 105 epoxy or g flex epoxy- both are hella flexy and good for ski building and or repair
