1) What is your budget? 800$

2) What experience do you already have with cameras? I have been filming for years and have started editing in the past year.

2) What gear, if any, do you currently have? Canon Vixia Hf200

4) What are you planning to shoot and how do you want to use your camera? Are you going to use this with the sole purpose of shooting skiing? or do you think you might try other stuff as well (movies, documentaries, short films, etc) Mainly ski edits.

5) Do you want a camera that you can hand to your friends, that could or could not have film experience, and let them shoot you? or will you be doing all the filming? Let anyone use it.
6) When filming skiing, how do you tend to shoot? (follow cams, leave it on record on a tripod and hike, film from a tripod, etc) Follow cams/stationary fimer

7) What computer do you currently have/use to edit (if not currently editing, what would you most likely use)? If you can provide specifics, such as hard drive space, RAM, processor size, that would be great.
Macbook Pro
7) What program do you currently edit on? How familiar are you with it (1- just learning; 10- I can make tutorials and know the keyboard layout) Final Cut Express 4 7.5

This prob will be pushing your budget, but you can prob get a used hmc40 around that price. I have one and I love it. Its very light so it fits easily and produces very good footage. The handle is detachable but to me fllimsy, you can make one. I had a friend make me one or put inner tube around it to have a better grip. When you take the hood, handle, batt, and eye cup its very small. Its prob the best bet, but thats coming from me. If you have any more questions just feel free to pm me.

i do really like the size and shape of that camera tho. if you find another one like that for a little cheaper lemme know

For $800 you probably won't be able to find a dedicated camcorder that is all that much better than the Canon you already have. You could get a Panasonic GH1 or a Canon T2i with kit lens (both still cameras capable of producing good video), but you would then have to save up money for some support gear, lenses, mics, etc. if you want to get really good footage (assuming you don't already have any of this). My advice to you would be to continue filming with the vixia and save up some more money until you can afford something like a used HMC40 or DSLR setup.
