1) What is your budget? How much money can you spend right away, and do you think you can get more money to invest in the future? maybe $380-$450

2) What experience do you already have with cameras? Have you ever even used one before? Have you helped your friend out with his camera? Have you owned your own? Not really done anything properly apart from Gopro POV

2) What gear, if any, do you currently have? (tripod, old camera lenses, mics, etc) Gopro Hero9, Gopro Hero 5 Session, iPhone 14

4) What are you planning to shoot and how do you want to use your camera? Are you going to use this with the sole purpose of shooting skiing? or do you think you might try other stuff as well (movies, documentaries, short films, etc) primarily ski season edits, but also short films and short documentaries on various topics

5) Do you want a camera that you can hand to your friends, that could or could not have film experience, and let them shoot you? or will you be doing all the filming? camera that I can hand to friends, some who have a little experience and some who have a lot

6) When filming skiing, how do you tend to shoot? (follow cams, leave it on record on a tripod and hike, film from a tripod, etc)

filming a run from the bottom/on opposing slope, handheld follow cam

7) What computer do you currently have/use to edit (if not currently editing, what would you most likely use)? If you can provide specifics, such as hard drive space, RAM, processor size, that would be great. PC: 16gb RAM, 3TB space, Ryzen 5 3600, 3070

Laptop: Dell, some intel i5, 8gb ram

7) What program do you currently edit on? How familiar are you with it (1- just learning; 10- I can make tutorials and know the keyboard layout) Premiere Pro (get subscription through school), probably a 3/4

Thanks for any responses!

Some kind of handheld camcorder is probably best for your budget and intended use. Look at the lower end Sony and Panasonic ones.

something like a Canon HF g30 would be pretty good. Any handheld cam would be solid just search for test videos for cams and choose one you like.

Hmc-40 is a great one. Sometimes you can find good deals. I would say if it’s your first camera tho to get a cheap handy cam. You can find them for 200-300$ on marketplace. No need to get a nicer/harder camera till you figure out a cheap easy one.

Dude I think you're already good to go if you got a go pro 9 for pov / follow cam shots and iPhone for 3rd person / zoom shots

idk much about cameras but as a ski edit watcher myself, i love the camcorder look and even with a fisheye maybe too, just make sure you have a good microphone to gget those nice ski sounds
