I've got way too many backpacks and I low-key hate all of them but one.

I'm starting back up at school in May and in the market for a new pack. I thought it would be interesting to see what other NSers like to tote around as their everyday packs, skiing packs, school packs, whatever.
 
i have a nice cotopaxi one i use for school/work and then for skiing, I got the Black Diamond Dawn Patrol 32L for general skiing use and touring. Pretty comfy and low profile i think for a pack that size, holds plenty of stuff for day trips and cruising around a resort. Used to have a really cool Dakine draw-string pack i used strictly for spring skiing and stashing beer in the woods that got stolen out of my truck one day :(
 
My everyday is a Mystery Ranch 3DA and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I actually need the space, so that's never a concern.

My gym/weekend trip bag was a North Face dry duffel, but the seam ripped after 5 years of owning it and they gave me a gift card refund.

Highly considering the Project TOAD Dry Bag by Colfax Design Works although it's expesnive AF and might be a little too hardcore. I want a Mystery Ranch Saddle Peak for a touring/bc bag, but there's shit weather in my neck of the woods, so i'll wait. Without knowing anything else, I almost always reccomend something from Mystery Ranch. The 'Carryology Classified' FB group has tons of options because those dudes buy tons of bags and resell at a similar rate.

Are Mystery Ranch packs more structured? I use a peak designs pack for my EDC and I love it, but it's structured, so whether its full or not it holds the same shape. I want something that if I only have one or two things in it, it naturally compresses into a smaller bag. You know what I mean? Floppy is the wrong word, but it's the only word I can think of lol.

Yes, they are. They are the gold standard in packs.
 
A 32L burton I bought years ago. Just enough soace to tour Although it's cramped to fit even 3 beers, water, jackets, and touring gear. But perfect as a day pack as well.

Just traded my airbag pack fir a wheel bearing and exhaust job :( but I didn't really need a bag that big and my car needed some love and I am a poor.

They are not all structured, mine and the other outdoor packs are structured with the futura yoke system. Their commuter or everyday urban packs do not appear to be structured, like literally none of them. Carryology Classified FB group has a lot of these unstructured urban EDC bag.
 
This whole "EDC" thing is the most beta trend to ever hit mens gear.

When I need to use a backpack I use my random Oakley one I bought off ebay like 8 years ago.

If I'm going out hiking or something I have a Camelback 14er that I really like. Backpacking I have an Osprey Xenith 88. Technical pack is a Eddie Bauer Alchemist. My work camera bag is a F-Stop Ajna. I have some other bags, but they aren't used much anymore.
 
Dakine packs look great and work great... for a few years max. Zippers break, buckles break, material starts wearing. Mystery ranch or other legit pack specific companies make far more durable and functional products. Right now using and old mountainsmith from a pawn shop for 10$. My dad has the same model he bought new in the 80s, all zippers still work, material is dirty and ugly, but functions better than most new packs. just my 2¢

EDC in my mind is an easy way to say “the bag I use every single day to haul my shit to and from work in”. It’s not always about “I keep my TACTICAL GEAR IN IT SO WHEN THE APOCALYPSE HITS IM READY FIR ANYTHING”

I agree this whole “flop out your shit on a table and show me your EDC” is trying way too hard.
