What are the safest bindings?

I broke my leg very badly skiboarding 2 years ago and now I'm switching to start freeskiing. I know that it isn't the safest either, but I would feel much better about it if I had some good bindings. Two questions:

What are the safest bindings?

What are the best overall bindings (if different)?

I'd say look bindings too. The rossi bindings are the exact same. How much do you weigh? Depending on the weight go for the p10 or the p12. If you are really picky about balance on rails get the Jib Bindings.. if not you may not even notice a difference between the Regular and the Jib Bindings. Just start off slow and small and as you get more and more comfortable go bigger. That should lower your risks of injury. That and commit!! Good luck, and have fun!

 
I'd probably go with the 12 then.... just in case you get any bigger. I am 5'10' 145, and have my bindings set at a 7. I have the p12 because I found them cheap, but I could easily get away with the p10. Hopefully you can get some other opinions. I've had some people tell me my bindings are set too loose, and others say they are set too tight. It's kind of a trial and error thing in my opinion, and if you think your bindings are going to be set at around an 8-10, then you should probably get the p12's.

By the way.. the '10' and '12' refers to the max DIN setting for the binding, and you don't want to set a binding all the way to it's max because there is too much pressure on the spring (or so I've heard). You want to set it right around the middle.

 
If you have the budget go for some look pivots... I'm 165 too... all the numbers are based on is how much weight it can handle and for you anything over a P10 Ti is a waste of money. I have the p10 tis on my trouble makers and they are really good... go with them.

The look bindings are good, but the new marker and tyrolia bindings are neat.

You should try one of them, I ride on markers myself and have done so for two years, and I like 'em really good!

I would buy a pair of markers...

 
definitely the Line Reactor 12.

that isn't being produced right now, (ha), Look p12 or the Rossignol Power 120, the exact same binding.

The Marker 1200 Free is also a safe choice.

dont listen to that stupid fuck marker bindings suck the heels on my snapped and bent and then i got new ones on warranty i used them at mountain creek and they busted on a 360 the toe piece cracked. Im like 5'11 185lbs. im switching to p12s hopefully ill c better results

I am one of the luck few that own a pair. If you get enough torque on either the toe or the heel, the other part (ex. for a toe release the heel) of the binding will actually rotate, helping to eject you. sounds sketch, i know, but it's saved me a few times.

Good luck finding a pair before next season though, that's when full production is supposed to begin.

Dont listen to these dumbasses. Marker bindings are the best binding on the market. The commmen thing with markers is that all these dumb 14 year olds buy the cheap ones that are ment for recreational skiing, not jibbing, so they break easy. If you by a binding thats appropriete for your level of skiing, you will be fine.

The reason that I say that Marker bindngs are the best, is that I have been testing bindings for the past 5 years, and Markers release more consistant then any other binding on the market. you can take a 15 year old marker, put it through a torque testing maching, and it will test out fine, where as any other binding will give you some funky numbers.

^^^ This guy probably knows way more about ski equipment than i do, but when i tore my ACL I was on marker free 1200s, they arent cheap bindings. They arent recreational bindings either. The din was only on 8 and I weigh about 175. Im not 14, im 19 and i tore my acl because my binding didnt release when i crashed. my skis were still on my feet when the ski patrol came. So this guy can tell you they release the most consistant, but he doesnt have any statistics or anything and I can tell you I was riding those bindings and I wont be riding till next season because of it. I wont be doing anything that fun for about 4 months actually. I'll never ride marker bindings again.

Everyones going to have their own opinion though. Not crashing at all is the best way not to get hurt.

 
They have only had a few models tested, but the new safest binding on the market will be atomics new release of the neox bindings, also known as the first EBM binding will redefine safety in bindings. EBM stands for Electric Binding Management. It is a digital binding which states whether you are properlly fixed on the binding. Look/Rossi. I've got Novas but my next pair of boards is getting mounted with Pivots. They have a huge elastic travel (the distance between locked down and the point at which they release) good snow tollerance, and the Pivot heel provides a very smooth release. Also, since you've already blown 1 ACL, you might think about going a little lower DIN than your recomended setting. That will protect you in the future.

 
Rick_Husted, a binding in a ''real'' enviroment bindings will never act perfectly. You wreaked, and blew your acl, which means that more then likely you had a reverse twisting fall, which inforchenitly no one makes a binding (Other then the line disaster) that they can say will release consistanlty in that type of fall. More then likely any other binding in that same situation would have resulted in the exact same consiquences.

Now, my ''statistics'' are that I have tested thousands of bindings in my lifetime, on an automated torque tester. And with those results i can tell you that Markers release more consistant then any other binding on the market.

Also, Im glad to see that Atomic is redoing there bindings. Im not a fan of there current binging what so ever, in fact I can go out on a limb and say that it is a compleat piece of shit. but that looks like it could go into the past, the new EBm binding looks great, has more of a marker designed heelpiece and is a much improvement.

A binding that is electronically controlled, uses batteries, and costs $1000? Hmm. I think I'll wait until the price drops a bit on that. Besides the price it sounds great.

 
That Atomic binding is the stupidest piece of shit ever. Hey look at me myu binding says I am correctly in the binding. And $1000??? I can buy 2 complete ski setups for the price of that POS.

And, to the DB complainging about Marker bindings tearing his ACL, if you weren't such a complete DB who sucks ayt skiing, you wouldn;t have torn your ACL.

Blaming an injury on the binding is pretty funny. I would bet large sums of money that when they tested your binding after you got hurt, that it checked out just fine, and that you suck at skiing which resulted in your injury.

 
Haha, if it didnt matter how the binding worked and how it released then why would you get companies dumbing thousands of dollars into producing the 'safest binding'

and the comment about how his binding would have checked out fine if they tested it... iam sure ur right on that one but, the arguement is irrelavant considering an acl injury can be the result of a number of things, most commonly a slow twisting fall. The fact this dude was on snowblades explains everything on why he had an ACL injury... they dont release

vt rider, it was a forward twisting fall i dont know if that makes any difference. i realize no binding will release perfectly all the time in real world situations, thats why i said the best way not to get hurt is not to crash. Is what matters is how well a binding performs in real world situations, not pop out tests, thats why im throwing my two cents in.

 
i wasnt on snowblades either, the guy that started this post is on snowblades. I was on skis.

i'm not blaming tearing my acl on the bindings, if i didnt mess up on the landing, i wouldnt have hurt myself. but the bindings didnt release and they should have.

You think acl injuries have nothing to do with bindings? Why do you think so many people think the line reacor binding idea is such a good idea? Its supposed to release better and reduce acl injuries. I know, I know, they are heavy and they break and they suck, thats what everyone says, but the IDEA is good.

and whats your problem? why do so many people on this website hate, im a pretty good skiier, nothing special. even if you totally suck, that doesnt mean you dont deserve bindings that release properly.

 
marker bindings are shitty dont show pictures on ads of ppl hitting kickers and going inverted if thats not what the bindings uses are fuck you park is part of skiing lick my nuts marker bindings suck hard
