Weird wear pattern

I’ve noticed all my bindings on my left skis have a very weird wear pattern.

the finish on the heel portion which contacts the rear of the boot all of them have the finish rubbing off some to the point of raw material in a straight up and down line

The right bindings all have full finish left

They are all pivots. Either 15/18.

could this be indicative of either too much forward pressure on my left bindings or too little on the right binding? Or could it just be that my left boot heel may be slightly misshapen and rubbing more than my right?

I don’t care about the finish. That’s not my concern. I’m just trying to make sure I don’t have something else going on that needs addressing safety/security wise in thr bindings. I like my acl’s.

I’ll snap pics soon.

Here are the pics as promised. The pair of Chetler’s both have marks, but that was from when they were mounted. I gave my left boot not thinking anything special. Got them back and had the marks. Didn’t think anything of it and didn’t care.

the two other skis I purposely gave my right boot when I got them back had basically no marks.

after skiing both pairs the left bindings on those pairs had the major marks from the left boot but fine basically on the right.

Skiing the blades I wasn’t paying attention and swapped feet for the day. Towards the end I noticed the the right ski( which was now on the left) started to have finish rubbing off as well again from the left boot heel.

What boot do you have? If its a touring capable boot I wouldn’t be surprised if the hardware for stepping your heel into pin bindings is raised a little on the left boot.

You might have nailed it. I have rossignol 110 alltrack pro LT’s. So I do have the tech inserts. Didn’t know these could cause issues.

Yeah it’s the metal on the inserts

Ok cool. Nothing I should worry about then I assume. Again finish was not the issue. Don’t care. Ski shit gets used. Just enjoy walking and having happy acl’s lol

I’m not reading all that but my guess is that u step on ur left binding with ur right ski when u take ur skis off

And you’d be extremely wrong. I’ve NEVER stepped on any binding with any ski in my entire life. I’ve only either used poles or my hands with my blades.

No

Cool comment.

You’re still wrong. None of my stuff has ever been stomped on period. Fools who do that are fucking idiots. The fact you’re trying to tell me how I treat my bindings is bringing you right in line with them.

You should see if you can get the tech insert pushed in a tad by tightening the screw so it's flush.

Gave it a whirl. Screw didn’t budge at all. Super tight.

Did you try unscrewing it at all? Did the driver bit fit very well in the screw? They shouldn't have had too much torque applied upon installation as the plastic is pretty soft.

I did not try to unscrew or remove. Just snug up. It did fit perfect. No slack and no play between the bit and screw. I’ll snap a pic of the back of the boot when I get a chance

Do you use the heel inserts on your boot at all? I use cast for touring so I just took the metal piece off my boots

L take. Worst thing stepping on your heels will do is scratch the cosmetic plastic piece which literally doesnt matter

L take. Let’s get [tag=145266]@.nasty[/tag] take on this. I’ve had second hand pivots that were fucked from people doing this

I have no uses them yet no. I don’t have a dedicated touring ski. Cast was in the future so I may just do that and remove the piece.

ya I won’t step on my bindings. Poles work just fine. The heel caps themselves are perfect finish wise. Just the portion that touches the rear of the boot.

Not even bad OP, I had tech inserts on my boots and that have done far more to my pivot heals than this. Still work great.

All my pivots look like this from my tech heels and they all perform fine. I think it's just the stepping in/out that wears the finish, regardless of whether you use poles to step out or not.

I mean I think I've made my case in other threads for the type of damage than can happen when stepping out of pivots with your skis so I'll let that be haha

For the wear in the OP, that's quite normal with a touring boot when set at correct forward pressure on a pivot. Honestly I'm not a huge proponent of using the white indicator on the heel for forward pressure. I usually look for the heel of the boot to just be touching the heel piece recession to give me the best ASTM test results. So seeing that exact spot with a little bit of wear in the pictures looks normal to me.

Appreciate the info. This is my first set of boots with tech inserts.

You can definitely see it on this one that the left arm is tightened in more than the right arm. Check where the black arms that attach the dildo line up with the hash marks on the silver arms that they attach to.

Funny enough that’s the only pair that wasn’t mounted by you guys. And you are correct. The one arm has slightly more gap coming from the dildo. It’s tiny but it is off.

that was done by my only local shop in south Florida. Exactly why I waiting to have my moments mounted at moment.

Lol ya unfortunately the options down here are non existent. Granted it’s Peter Glenn, and I have two within 20 mins. But only one location does service.

Oh no, sorry for the confusion! I meant it explained everything about why this shitty thread fucking exists.
