Weed may soon be legal in california

Not gonna pass.

it would suck anyway. 50$ tax per ounce? fuck that. it would just turn into cigarettes. If you get busted smoking pot in california anyway, your a retard.

hahah very true, still keep your fingers crossed though! and plus if it starts in cali, hopefully it will migrate to the rest of the u.s.

$50 bucks per ounce is NOTHING. I'd happily pay that for it to be legal. Plus even with that $50 it'd still be cheaper than most other places in the country.

Damn, making people happy AND bringing in 1 bil for the state? Obama needs to hop on this idea to save our economy, it legit could work.

It's a $50 tax on top of the cost of an ounce, not $50 an ounce. Sooooo....I guess that 1/8 would cost an extra $6.25

even if it is passed federal laws still make it illegal which would continue the imbalance of laws and the busts by feds on dispensaries.... unless something has changed that i dont know....

Most of the people on this site probably don't even understand these laws, bills, and proposals.

And I dunno how much it will bring in because if it was government regulated it would be way cheaper than it is now in the absence of a black market. Either way they should legallize it entirely and control it. Some money is better than none, and I'd be willing to bet it would indeed bring in a lot of revenue, though probably not enough to make a huge dent in our recession.

and i dont usually buy more than an eigth at a time anyway. so think about it, 35 dollar a slice for headies, plus 6.25, and its completely legal.

sounds good to me.

if pot becomes legal it better not be 10 a gram. its gotta be some really good shit then. if we mass produce the crop and just roll joints in automatic assembly line, it could literally cost pennies for a single joint.

thats fucking sick. i hope it passes. prob wont but fingures crossed. if it does im heading there for a road trip when i get my car

haha, the article linked to something about the press conference and this was at the bottom. made me lol.
"But this much is certain: If Ammiano pulls this off, there's a place for him reserved on the Mount Rushmore of Pot Gods, right between Cheech, Chong, and Bob Marley."

So many things wrong with this post.

First, where are you getting $10 grams from? Fill me in, please, cuz I must be a sucker for paying $50 for an eighth of dank all these years.

Second. Have you been blind to what Cali has been doing the past couple years? I guaranty if they Legalize it, they'll keep the same framework as they have now. No mass production of crops, no mass joint rolling. It will never be like cigarettes.

wow i always thought ny had shitty prices, here its standard for $10 grams of danks, $20 for anywheres from .8 to like 2.2 depending on how good it is. the $40 for 3.5 to 4.0. i mean whats in i while you get a fuckin duche trying to sell $50 or $60 but its usually uncommon.

also i think he means in time it will be cheaper. if it gets leagalized there will be so many people jumping on the trian to market and mass produce it. i guarentee it will be mass produced like ciggaretts within ten years of being legal

10 bucks a gram is avg.. or like 40 for 3.5g more or less... but I really dont know how much bad weed costs in Seattle, we don't have any.

Don't worry bud, I've been out of the US plenty. Way to bring something completely irrelevant into this. I know how much weed costs in other countries as well as across the US.

Also, I know you can get $10 grams of mids, why do you think I specified $50 for an eighth OF DANK. You guys must not score high on your comprehension exams...

As for the person who said Legalization would bring more harm than good, you are horribly wrong. The US spends more than 10 BILLION dollars on year on Marijuana enforcement alone, tell me thats a good idea in our shit-show of an economy.

If you buy weed wholesale it's more economical, so what you may "save" from the smaller tax of just a bag you would've saved anyway buying it by the oz., without tax.

I agree somewhat, for sure. However, I think there will always be the demand for high-quality, properly grown buds.

So you're saying that corperations would have legal power to say that it's illegal for a person to install lots of high-powered lighting in the privacy of their own home to grow a legal plant? It doesn't seem possible...

I think most people who smoke know what good weed is...if it were legalized I highly doubt the growers would slip. Medicinal weed on the west coast is pretty good, the growers normally do a good job and have pretty legit operations going on. I can't see that going away. If it does get mass produced, the good stuff won't go away, there are too many people who smoke to try to bs the US.

I just don't see production in mass quantities like that, maybe thats how it will be, but it seems far fetched to me.

What every seems to be passing up here is the fact that this should make the cultivation of HEMP legal as well. Now I can see Hemp being produced in mass quantity, shit it should be already.

i don't think it will pass i think people are too ignorant about its harmlessness to let this go through. i would supportthe bill if it went through but they shouldn't go too nuts on taxes or people will just continue buying from their current dealers, making the bill pointless.

at least decriminalization, but its either going to pass or not pass, which rules out compromise.

This could spawn an interesting worthwhile discussion. Unfortunately, like all drug related threads on NS, it always turn into a massive claim fest about quality and price.

Newsflash: No one fucking cares and/or is impressed by how cheap or good your tree is. Unless of course, you're sharing.

People... it will be so much cheaper. Weed is just that - a fucking weed. Yet it's worth more ounce for ounce than gold. Why? Because it's illegal. As for variety? Why wouldn't there be? There will be cheap, shitty stuff just like there's cheap, plastic handles of vodka, and then your connoisseur shit. None of this will be realized until it's legalized nationally due to the state/federal conflict, but once that happens we're gonna see some really cool things happen. Cali legalizing it is the start to it all, this is fucking huge. It won't pass, but it's out there for real now. It's only a matter of time.

Trueish, but it seems the differences between Decriminalizing and Legalizing are becoming vague. However, I would have absolutely no problem paying taxes on my pot if Legalized, not Commercialized.

word. if weed gets legalized it will be interesting to see how the market changes. i would think that the government would restrict people to a certain number of plants (ex. in Holland, adults can only grow 2 plants per person) so that most weed would be grown by companies and the government could tax the sale of that weed. i got the impression that the cannabis market in holland was much like the alcohol market everywhere else. its illegal to manufacture alot by yourself and theres a wide range of quality
