Wedding Video Critique

I shot my first wedding 22 days ago as a second shooter and finally had time to sit down and finish up the editing. I mainly shot b-roll all day but it was still an amazing all around experience! Please rip my edit and camera work to shreds! On a side note I did just invest into a couple new lenses and a new camera that works much better in lowlight.

It's too shaky and your camera movements are too quick for the type of shots you're getting imo.

Also I know it may be for your artistic purposes, but try to film on a flat axis a little more, I found myself tilting my head to the side for a third of the video

Also did you pick the music? it wouldn't be my first choice for a wedding video, but if the clients picked it then that's alright I guess.

As for the flat axis thing, the guy who hired me said to get as many dutch angles and swinging shots, he would worry about flat axis ones.

Music was the client's choice so i just went with it even though the video wasn't for them, more for myself.

The drone shot seems a little out of place in comparison to how the rest of the video was shot so I think you could lose that little piece and the camera work is a little too shaky, did you have any type of stabilizer? Even a tripod that you have compact and attached to your camera can smooth some of that out for you.

Some of your lifestyle shots for the after party are great and show how quirky and cute the bride is but I feel an emphasis on the actual ceremony is left out. Though it might be a short portion of the day, in a wedding video for the client getting married, that's a pretty important little portion.

Is this just your portion of the filming or the collective between the two? If it's just yours and your job was to capture just lifestyles and B-roll then I totally get why most of the ceremony is left out.

Weddings are way harder than they seem and clients can be picky but super lucrative. Keep gettin out there!

I shot with my steadicam solo for practically all day.

My Job was b-roll and for the ceremony a cutaway angle so i was literally in that position on my slider for the whole ceremony.

Weddings are great, just booked two more haha!

slight bit of slowmo helps with fast pans and camera shake too if you're not using audio,

here's one a friend and I shot back in august if you wanna throw some critiques at that too

A lot of really cool shots, but I think the chronological order is a bit messed up, it felt a bit random and disconnected. For instance, he establishes the scene (the house) then moves to the bridesmaids but then goes back to the outside shots of the house

ahh yeah I see what you mean, like when the brides already dressed but then it goes back ot them getting ready?

Thanks!

Yeah exactly it just feels like it moves forward really well but then takes a step back which induces a little bit of confusion and disrupts the continuity imo
