Wealth Inequality in the U.S.

This could be a repost but this actually blew my mind. I have never seen it laid out like this before.

Interesting but doesn't prove anything. People have some weird thought in the back of their head that the 1% doesn't work hard, when in fact, the majority works a lot harder and is smarter than the 99%. Accept that. Don't promote socialism, it discourages striving for success. In no way am I saying that the 1% shouldn't help out others, but it's absurd to ridicule the wealth inequality in the US. No shit there's going to be a large difference. It's capitalism for god's sake.

You must of not watched the video, because it doesn't discourage anything or say that the 1% or lazy or that socialism is the right answer.

Also you would be surprised at how the 1% isnt that smart or any more educated than the average person in the middle class. I went to school in NYC with a lot of the kids of the people who wrecked the economy in 2008. They really are no smarter than you or me.

Maybe I'm just being cynical because I view this as fairly common knowledge, but what's the point of the video really? I'm not getting the motive.

That sounds dandy but iq (intelligence) is the single best predictor of socioeconomic status later in life. The rich are smarter, and the smarter are richer. Want that million dollar a year jon at apple? What do you need? Money? No. Rich parents? No. Intelligence? Yes.

because people are stupid, and won't understand it until it's put in pictures with a man explaining it. You can read the words or hear the words but it won't sink in until you see it in action

What pisses me of is the CEO's of big banks or businesses that drove their companies into the ground had to lay off workers and get bailed out by our tax money and the ceos still pay themselves what they normally make. To me that makes no sense If your business is going down the shit tube the ceo's paycheck should as well, instead of laying of employees who had no doing in screwing anything up. Also it astounds me when companies that make billions a year pay little to no taxes at all and hide their money off seas to just wait for a tax holiday to bring all their money back over. Lastly this may be a bit unrelated but lobbying is the biggest piece of shit out there. Its basically bribery. Money is the root of evil and corruption. Ben Franklins force man to question his morals and break those boundaries in order to get the cream.

The gap of wealth has been increasing and that is a problem. When there is a more even displacement of wealth the people as a community do better. Being economically sound leads to smarter children and more of which will go to college get good jobs which will make the country healthier as a whole.

My point is if your business just nearly went under and only didn't because the government stepped in and gave you money ceos should be the ones suffering the consequences. Not living in a bubble. Even if their business is doing bad some CEO's of big banks and businesses will give themselves a raise while they are laying off employees. Im not talking about all CEOs Im talking about a select group who run multi billion dollar companies.

Obama is a socialist... No one has seen his birth certificate because it actually states the Karl Marx is his father. Dude read a book.

Haha, kids that think they're going to be in the 1%, or that they are because their parents tell them they are....hilarious. Once one of you actually makes it in the real world, see if your attitude changes. Or better yet, all of you that think its in your control, let me know when you're dissappointed later. People under 22 shouldn't have any say in this arguement because you've never experienced the workforce, nor climbed the financial ladder, nor experienced the difference between the have and have-nots. Don't spew what your college professors tell you, or your highschool teachers or your parents. EXPERIENCE...then talk.

no no and no. i don't even understand how you think this video doesn't doesn't prove anything. The 1% may work hard, but no harder than the middle or lower class. In reality, the majority did not reach that top 1 percent based on merit alone. It's absurd to think that the 1% got there climbing the social ladder.

this this this. A lot of that is inherited wealth and inherited positions.

Also lets not forget about luck, and that some people have more opportunities than others. The idea that the rich are smarter than the middle class or the poor is an absurd and baseless assumption.

Everyone says how it "levels the playing field" but that's bullshit. Think about an entrepreneur who now makes $1,000,000 per year, a lot of people look at that and say "no person should make that much". What people don't get is the fact that in order to start that company said entrepreneur had to put his entire financial security on the line in hope of making it big. If you tax the life out of that person it discourages the average joe from starting his own business (which creates jobs); this is because you are shrinking the reward but the risk stays the same. Capitalism in it self is a level playing field, there will always be winners and losers no matter what economic system is being used.

In order for wealth redistribution to be effective it would take a lot more than taxing the 1% to death. You would need to rob everyone making over $250,000 a year to see any change.

I forgot stealing is ok as long the government is doing it. Higher taxes for higher income levels are great, but full on wealth redistribution is fucked up.

let me rephrase this, The gov does a lot of great things but there comes to be a point where enough is enough.

Its not just redistribution its ending corporate welfare and overseeing markets so wall street doesn't ruin our economy and throw everyone but the people who fucked it up into the shitter.

Its a good thing, you know why?

When you give a poor man millions, they will be broke in a few months once they stop making money. (think athletes)

Well if it wasnt them that busted their ass climbing the social ladder, then it was their ancestors who did, and their ancestors have every right to pass down their wealth to their offspring. There are already huge unjust taxes that attempt to block the transfer of wealth down generations within families, so whatever wealth people end up with is justly theirs, and if you think otherwise you are an idiot.

This, I can't see why someone would make this video unless they had an agenda to push

And if they are just trying to say how much life sucks for the poor, what do they propose to stop it?

i so knew that americans would be all over this thread calling socialism and communism before i opened it.

yes, communism doesnt work. but guess fucking what. free economies dont work either. they crash so often its mind boggling when you think how many well-educated and highly paid professionals deal with it.

their has to be a middle way, enabling people to fulfil their purpose in life, have a career, while still enabling quality living for anybody. and really, strip anybody of his wealth in excess of 1 billion or so. thats just a surreal number beyond any real consequence.

Obviously the wealth distribution between the rich is the poor is absurd number but we need to be real. The people in the 1% most not all but the majority probably like .95 of the 1% have worked all their lives in some way, wanting to get more and more as means for becoming very successful. Not all but the majority, let me re state that. Most people in that precentage do find ways to get around from having 1/3 or their annual earnings being taken from them, but how they usually do that is with donations and charity work. Without the 1% our countries donation and charity groups would not be where they are. Almost all, almost all donate a ton of money to charity, I am not trying to be political right now but mitt Romney donated ton and tons and tons of money and never looked for the acclamades for all that, except everybody kept pestering him for his tax statements and everything like that. The weath distribution is the way it is because a lot of people in the 99% just expect things to be given to them, obviously not all NS not majority but a lot of people do. Mostly the lower class depending of the state for funds. I am not denying tht the Wyeth distribution in the states is disappointing or nothing but without that 1% and we became a socialist country, where would we be, not good, no hate coming from me

Actually look at the free markets of ch and singapore. Doing just fine. What caused the us crash? A government program. Free markets will always do better with less government invilvement. Your an idiot if you think free markets dont work

The 1%, for whatever reason, are rich beyond measure, but I for one applaud them for it. They managed to get themselves into a position, whether it be through hard work or connections, where they earn incredible wealth.
