Hey NS,

Just thought I'd make a thread to talk about bands. I'm sure there are some out there, but I'm studying for midterms and I've been listening to Brand New all day... one of my favorite bands. Don't get me wrong, I love all the stuff about rap and hip hop on here and I agree that it is great to ski to, but since this is NSG, let's talk about some other music genres.

I love Brand New because no 2 of their songs sound the same... bands I love like Taking Back Sunday and Blink seem to have extremely similar songs from album to album, but Brand New's songs are so unique from each other, and every album is a whole new sound. I love the lyrics.

Let's not hate, just talk about your favorite bands, and lets see who might have similar music interests to you. The music world is a truly cool place.

Opeth, Dream Theater, Children of Bodom (all of which are metal), Damien Jurado, 2pac, PaceWon, Ground Up, And LOTS more.

celpothripsy. gunt, zombie cum, exhumed, morbid angel, double duce groan, jamie hanks middle finger...... abba

as far as songs that I enjoy the meanings to... anything by pink floyd. Phish is always a good call too. For more indie stuff, Matt and Kim, the Sounds, Delorea

Really, anything prog. Why? Because it is so different from everything else. Usually rather technical, no song structure, odd time signatures, all make it very interesting. Some awesome prog metal bands are Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, Dream Theater, Scale the SUmmit, Animals as Leaders, Periphery. Prog rock would have to be Rush, Porcupine Tree, Yes. I am probably forgetting some very good ones.

Blink and +44 are awesome. I saw Set Your Goals with Four Year Strong a really long time ago haha... I don't listen to them anymore.

dude... scale the summit..... epic... appleseed cask?

if you like between the buried and me...

check out those who lie beneath... there from portland or.. and my buddy is on the vocals.. they shred hard..

Yeah, that isn't going to happen. Tom Delonge is really invested in Angels and Airwaves (who are really good live) and last time Blink went on a reunion tour in summer of '09 they canceled half of their shows, and showed up wasted and angry to the other half. They all hate each other, and they are definitely over.

A bunch of my friends had the amazing opportunity to see them long ago, and I wish I could have been there.

You should check out an Angels and Airwaves show. It's definitely a different sound from Blink, but it is a really good show.

I just listened to Those Who lie Beneath. They sound more like Beneath the Massacre or Veil of Maya, than BTBAM. Either way they are pretty good.

Completley different genre here - anybody who hasn't listened to Neil Young yet should get on that now.

So much yes in that list! Death Cab, Modest Mouse, Passion Pit, and The Black Keys are so great!

Anyone for Iron and Wine?! I love them too...

I think Brand New is a pretty incredible band. I don't mess with the first album, second album is OK but a little too emo-ish coming from being an angsty punk rock kid in highschool, but The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me is incredible for just about everything about it. The lyrics are amazing. The play count on my computer says 65 plays all the way through, and that doesn't count how many times I may have listened to it on my ipod.

I also really like "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child" from Manchester Orchestra.

I listen to so much music besides hip hop, especially recently. I could go through a bunch of my favorites but I'm too tired, maybe later.

Recently I've been into Julian Plenti. It's a side project of the lead singer of Interpol, Paul Banks. Delivered a lot of what the new self titled Interpol album was missing.

i fucking love brand new. by far my favorite band. its so awesome how all their music is so different. they grew up through their music its just so awesome. they are sooo talented!

i also love fork and knife..saw the thread title and lit up inside haha.

i also love bands like title fight (AMAZING new punk rock band thats just emerging)

of course i love death cab for cutie and like postal service. say anything. coheed and cambria. the xx. idk so many more

such a solid selection right there.
surprised to see Brand New getting love in here, that's cool too. sic transit gloria is a rad song.
Personally, I'm going through a huge LCD Soundsystem phase

Hahah, you are the best. I completely agree with everything you said. Death Cab and PS and Coheed are so good!

The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me is certainly my favorite album... it is incredible. The lyrics are something else for sure. I am learning Jesus from that album on guitar right now... I absolutely am in love.

Manchester Orchestra is very cool... I like them a lot. I will have to check out Julian Plenti! That seems awesome!
