Waxing With an Iron.

Hey this is my first time tuning my skis myself.

I am going to attempt to wax my skis using melt on wax with an iron.

Can someone explain some steps and guidelines as to how its done? thanks.

hold wax to iron drip on about a fourth of your skis iron in circles until wax is coving the whole area your working on...finish the skis.. let them set.. then scrape access wax of with one of those things you scrape plaster on walls with... at least thats how i do it

first u heat up the search bar so that you can melt some search brand wax onto your skis, then use a searchbar scraper to scrape off the extra search with

holy shit you guys suck at waxing skis

first turn your iron on so when you touch the wax to the iron it melts but not so that it smokes. then drop wax in a line or two down your bases work in circles making sure never to stay in one spot too long or you could ruin your bases. after you spread the wax everywhere then go slowly down straight down the bases to make it smooth. then while waiting to do the other let the first ski sit and cool off. then take a plastic scraper you can get at a ski shop for like 5 bucks and take that and scrape off all the wax on the skis. then if you choose you can brush them with a scotch brite pad or a ski bursh but theyre like 20 bucks and its not worth it that much

i keep the iron moving in circles untill the top sheet starts to get slightly warm. this way you know that the ptex has absorbed all the wax it needs.

^if the topsheet is warm thats ok... what you MUST avoid is getting the topsheet hot, if your ski is that hot throughout and the core then you are going to be on the verge of bubbling your base... if it feels warm to touch then STOP and let em cool

since most people don't know this when they start waxing their own skis, lemme tell you one of the most important skis.

after you iron the wax on, you want to scrape it ALL off. you don't want any wax left on the ski.

the way it works is the way is absorbed into pores in the base of the ski. it's not supposed to be gunked on the bottom.

and for the rest listen to the other guy.

The traditional method of using wax has been used for many years but engineers have discovered a much better method. For the best results you want to use KY in jelly form. First, put all the jelly and spread it accross the ski. Next, get a blow torch. Turn it to Medium setting and start at the tip of the ski and burn the jelly into the surface. Move in a side to side motion until you all the way to the base of the ski. A brown tinge is normal.

This is how I do it:

-Scrub your ski's base with a stiff nylon brush (if there's gunk in it)

-Clean it off with a base cleaner -or- melt wax on your skis and scrape it off before it cools down

-Drip the wax all over your skis (I usually use 3 or 4 beads down the length of my skis)

-Iron it in without heating up the bases too much

-Cold Shock it by sticking your skis base down into the snow (Supposed to help the bases absorb more wax)

-Scrape off all the wax with a scrapper, then buff it up with a p-tex pad or scotch-brite pad.

There's also texturing with brushes and such, but that's not really necessary. Horsehair brushes are supposed to reduce the static build up left behind after you buff it with the pad.

ok thanks guys. Ya i tried it and it seemed to work.

For my first ski i didnt clean it very well and didnt use enough wax.

The second one i tried using lighter fluid as a solvent and it worked alot better. I should probably find something less ghetto than lighter fluid but... meh wuteva works.

Next time ill try sticking it in the snow too.

be careful with cold shocking your skis i think it because of the drastic change from hot to cold that my buddies skis bubbled

yeah..make sure the skis are at room tempureure first...then hit them with a scraper a few times to make sure they are deccenty clean...then melt wax...u dont need as much wax as you think..u can always add more...DO NOT move the iron in curculer motions...parralel to the ski toherwise it will scrath the ski...let cool...longer u let it cool the better..lets it soak in..then scrape and hit it up with a ski waxing cork..if u have one...then brush to perfection....dont scrape the ski too mcuh either...just make sure its smotth

and doing ur edges is a whole diff story
