Waxing Top-sheets?

So, I was skiing pow yesterday with some friends and some of the snow lower down was sticky and loaded up their top-sheets. One of them said "I wish I had waxed my top-sheets"...
Would that work? Rub on wax? Melt on? On what surfaces?

I definitely suggest putting a hot wax iron on your top sheet. It does wonders for the graphics.

Do you understand how stupid you sound?

I've never ever heard of that. Only on the bases. I can imagine I'd sound stupid if this is such a popular thing. But my skis have never actually had a top-sheet needing wax or that could be waxed for that matter.

1 sec too long for your sarcasm to sink in.
But seriously. It's been done. Probably a rub on wax though.

I can see in pow why you might want to try some sort of wax. It will make snow slip off the top sheets if your not floating above the snow when you are riding.

Get a can of Teflon Spray, i bet that will work. Although who knows what happens if you accidentaly get that stuff in your base.

The topsheets are made of a lightweight plastic, whereas bases are made of P-Tex. Topsheets will melt if you try and iron them, i.e., the iron will melt into the ski...

Well if you ever decide to put your bindings on the wrong side that im sure that would be ideal.

On a powder day where the snow happens to be a bit stickier you add a lot of weight when snow sticks to the top-sheet. Especially with 125mm waist skis, so, iron wouldn't work, it would melt the top-sheet, that said, would rub on wax help the situation, can it be applied to the top-sheet without just coming off after a few hours.

i head if you leave your skis in salt water it does wonders in the pow, and also way your boots, bindings and pants, i ripped through pow this weekend cause of those 4 simple thigns

I could see you waxing your top sheets with sex wax the keep snow off... Its hockey stick wax that you put on after you tape your stick to keep moisture from penetrateing your tape job allowing to to last long as well as provideing more grip. I dont see why you would ever bother doing this tho.. and it would gunk the fuck outa your skis

dont know why every one is hating on this kid...PAM works great by the way, doesnt last more then a day but its cheap easy to put on and doesnt damage the skis in any way... just keep it clear of you binders. and it wont hurt the bases at all.rub on wax would probably work to but pam is for sure you best bet

Maybe try some rain-x or other similar product for windshields? It shouldn't gunk up or discolor your topsheets since they use it on windows..

Thank you, It makes sense not to have an extra 5 pounds of heavy snow stuck to the topsheets of your pow skis. Especially when you have to pop out of the powder to make your turns. It gets to be excessive. +k

if you use a teflon spray, be really careful about what the solvent used in the spray is to deliver the teflon coating. some of those will eat/dissolve a number of different polymers and could damage your top sheet and really mess up your base. take a tiny amount and put it on a small area on the top and make sure the top sheet doesn't get super cloudy or rough. if it does you best leave it alone and just deal with the extra snow.

yeah backcoutry skiers do this all the time for skinning up and skiing down.. nixwax i thInk might make a product speciflecly for this though

dont use this wax. its very sticky and meant to grab a hold of the puck. it doesnt let moisture in, but it still allows for a lot of snow to get stuck on it. i know this because i use it for hockey (best wax ever btw for all you hockey players). if you want to use wax, use a hard candle or some kind of hard wax....however PAM would be your best bet

dude idk about you but i like to melt irons into my top sheet i think it adds a nice look skiiing wit irons on my skis adds swing weight too....

you'll go so fast that when you hit a jump you'll just keep going so high that you burn up in the sun and DIE

1. Fuck off. You've done nothing but hate in this thread.
2. It was 71cm. I bet you don't have that much snow to ski in.
3. Suck on the above^
4. The alpine isn't open quite yet so on flatter terrain it made for hop turns in and between big and small trees.
5. Don't think I'm a noob skier. I've been doing it all my life, there isn't one run I can't do on either Whistler or Blackcomb without ease.

1. i hated because it was a pretty stupid question

2. you're honestly going to make fun of something i have ABSOLUTELY no control over??

3. suck on the above^

4. even if you're doing hop turns which you really don't need to do, added snow on your skis isn't gonna inhibit them from exiting the snow so much that you need to wax your topsheets

5. claiming about which on piste runs you can do is the ultimate noob skier distinction...not saying you're a gaper, but don't use that to show you kill it

Alright then. This just getting interesting.
1. It was an honest question which curiosity arose and I bet there have been much dumber ones.2. It's not making fun. It was just to piss you off because you were pissing me off. West coast mountain range rocks.3. done with sucking thats for fags4. If you want to ride backseet in super deep snow trying to zigzag on 30 degree slops be my guest. I'll be bouncing halfway out of the snow each turn.5. Not a claim to fame or to look like I "kill it", If i wanted that i can brag about other stuff.

1. it's like killing someone and explaining to the jury "yeah but people have committed way worse murders before." it may not be the stupidest thing ever but it's still stupid...why spread stupidity?

2. i dont care that you live in BC, congrats, you live in a cool place

3. the only thing that sucks in this thread is the idea of waxing topsheets

4. people who ride backseat and think it's good should be sent to concentration camps

5. it was a claim to fame, you said you could ski any run at whistler...that's not a claim?

now I'm just getting tired.
1. When you compare murder to asking a stupid question, that is stupidity right there.
2. nuff said
3. Before you tell me it's a stupid thread, tell my why. It was a legitimate question.
4. Yes but without the gas chambers.
5. It wasn't a claim, it was a shout saying "HEY! You there! Yeah You! Stop acting as if I'm some noob."
Are we done yet?

Are we done yet? People are going to read this and just laugh at the stupidity of this argument.

1. Use one or two ... greens in piles of 5 -- roll up and ... Enjoy!! (Great with hot sauce)

2. Put in pan and ... sugar; mix well. Pour step 1 in step 2. ... cake while hot in pan.

3. Melt butter, add rest ... an hour before adding Step 2. Soften cheese, and ... evenly. Let set about 5 minutes and then take ... or whatever to the top.

4. Step 1: Arrange broccoli. Step ... Sprinkle with cheese. Combine butter and ... 20 minutes. Makes 4 servings.

5. Place all ingredients in large soup pot or Dutch oven. Bring to boil over high heat. Stir, cover, lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove pot ...

1. agreed

2. don't pour cake while hot, you'll get some sticking issues, really bad stuff

3. add a hint of jicama here, really reinforces the softening process

4. brocolli can also be replaced with snow peas if you prefer

5. don't quite bring to boil as it will add a slightly rubbery texture to the broccoli resulting in a ruined meal, but make sure it's enough to blend the cheese with the jicama

you're such an IDIOT malcolm...GOSH

didn't read the thread but have been racing/tuning my skis for over 10 years. DO NOT DO NOT DO THIS YOU WILL NOT HAVE SKIS AFTER YOU TRY THIS the top sheet will do nothing for you if you try to hot wax it, the top sheet is made of a different materiel the bottom of your skis you will go wright through the top of your skis and you will no longer have any skis for the season.

^haha funny shit that made my day. +K.
for an answer i would say pam would maybe work but only for like a day. my answer would be to just deal with the snow on topp of youre skis. or just ski all those groomers you talked about. i dont really think that rub on wax would help much and def dont hot wax the topsheets, thatll fuck ur skis up soo bad. hope that helps, just my 2cents

yo i remeberd seeing this thread a while back..
i was waxing skis with my gf today (a racer) and saw in her tuning.wax kit that she has a thing of turtle wax, a wax for cars, she explained to me that racers use it on their top sheets to prevent snow buildup.
...AUTO WAX for topsheets
