Waxing help

i like to wax pretty often maybe like once every 4-5 times at the hill, and i think i must’ve done something wrong yesterday, i applied wax around 1pm, let sit for about 2 hours and scraped, then skied on them for about 3 hours, and i see today my bases are looking bone fucking dry.

when i waxed yesterday i 1) used wire brush to remove old wax, 2) dripped then ironed on, 3) scraped 4) used polishing rag. this is pretty much how i wax every time but i’m really at a loss for words atm cuz i think these bases look terrible and idk why, any help appreciated.

Looks like some abrasive snow ripped it off. That reminds me of Aussie snow’s effects on bases. My advice - let the wax sit overnight in a warm place. Has this happened before?

2 hours isn’t that long for wax in my opinion, but then again I err on a long bake for wax

i haven’t ever noticed it quite this badly, the place i ski has been getting rain, seasons almost over, so when i skies yesterday the man made/ ice was out in full effect. i will let the wax sit for longer next time and see if it helps. i also read that 130-140 is a bit too hot for waxing so i’ll try close to 115-120 next time . thanks for comment bro

I agree with letting the wax sit for longer. I usually wait at least 4 hours before scraping. Also try using a nylon brush as your finisher instead of a rag. it gives a good polish. Make sure you're matching your iron temp to what the wax specifically says. Should say right on the box. Generally Cold temp wax is harder and needs a little more heat and warm temp wax is softer and needs less. My Cold temp wax recommends a max temp of 140c, warm is 120c, and all temp 130c. Careful with temps, your wax shouldn't be smoking when waxing plus you don't wanna burn your bases

Either your leaving way to much wax on skis or you need a base grind. Looks to me by where the wear is from rails probably leaving to much wax on skis, because it’s down to base. Do you brush out skis with wire brush after waxing?

Simple test. Scratch the ski with a coin, or fingernail. You will instantly know if it's wax.

If no change, the base is burnt.

You need to brush very well AFTER waxing. You don't want any wax left on the surface.

You don't need to go fully overboard, as I will show you here, but at least a brass brush.

ya so i think i didn’t scrape well enough and it’s just residual wax that i need to remove, as a couple of you suggested was the case. thanks for input y’all!

Yea, you could tell by where the rails took it off under foot.

Always scrape and brush like crazy. You can thank me later.

wire before applying and nylon after scraping?

Wire before, and after! Nylon is for polishing only. Use a polishing brush last, unless it's wet snow, then skip polishing.

I know my video is long, but if you have not, watch it all.

Best to you, and speed to do the deed is always good.
