Waxing and tuning question.

So i want to clean my bases, but ive herd that base cleaner is bad for the base and will destroy the wax built up over precious waxes. Someone said in a video that melting the wax into the base and imedatly scraping it off will pull all the crap and debris out of the base. anyone have any experiance on this and/or does it.

Second i just got the dakine edge tuner and i dont ski much park i like to go fast and jib around the whole mountian. i ski some small jumps and pipe.Dont ski much rails and boxes. i rarely ski them it is more jumps and pipe. the question is what is the difference between the 88 degree bevel and the 90 degree bevel? wick is the best for holding and edge on the ice coast? .

+K for help

the first thing you mentioned is called a cleaning wax. Use a warm wax (pink/yellow) and scrape it off while it's still warm. I prefer to not use base cleaners, your edges are personal preference I ski with a 1° base bevel and a 2° side bevel. I believe that the more agressive (bigger number) your base bevel the more you need to angulate to engage your edge, but allows you to be quicker edge to edge. As long as their sharp they should grip. I don't know anyone that skis with 90° edges.

to clean your bases you perform a hot scrape, using a warm temp (yellow) wax. Scrape of immediately after waxing. The soft yellow wax gets deeper into the pores of the ski rather than a red or blue wax. Do hot scrapes until the wax is the original color. Most of the time it will take 3-4 hot scrapes.

as for the bevel, no one does 90 degrees. standard bevel is usually 1 on the base and maybe 2 on the side. decreasing the base bevel will cause your skis to engage into a turn more quickly. increasing the side bevel makes the edge sharper so it bites harder. be carefull messing with the bevel. its pretty sensitive.

the tuner only does the side bevel and the tool says it is either 88 degrees and 90 degrees i have never touched the base bevel and dont want to

but thx for all the help
