Washing Your Outerwear

Ok so I tried searching but I couldn't find a real clear answer. So I ask you, NS, if I were to wash my jacket and pants, how should I go about doing it? Thanks.

first of all read the instructions on the tags. But it usualy is hang dry (drying takes away the repelent coating that makes water bead up) and wash with a powdered detergent instead of a liquid one but read up.

You can put them in your washing machine. Buy some tekwash, and do the instructions on those bottles. Don't put them in the dryer.

I've found that the express cycle with no detergent and cold water is the best way to ensure your waterproofing is still good, but it's not going to get out railstains or anything like that.

for stains/railstains/dirt get some spray and wash and rub it opn the stain then put it in the wash with cold water and hang to dry and voile, your clean. if you weant more waterproofing buy some nikwax that goes in the wash too

for the scrubbing deal, i found that SHOUT isnt too bad at all, got a good deal of the dirt out of my white pants

I bought jacket/pants from people on NS, and I was planning on just giving them a light wash before the season started. Do you suggest I do this or no? I might order some tekwash and just restore the waterproofing. Suggestions? Also, the jacket smells like moth balls (the kid must have had them in his house or something) so I really need to get that out haha.
