Wanting to get back into tricks

Hey guys, first post here on Newschoolers and I figure this is what Im most curious about. So, Im a sophomore in college at Iowa, makes it a little difficult to ski. However I still go as much as I can, including going out west every winter. When I was in 7th grade and just starting to get okay at some smaller tricks, having loads of fun, I took a jump out in Winter Park, ski didnt release and I wound up breaking my femur. I dont recommend doing this as it is incredibly painful, but Im sure some of you already have. Since then I have been real shy of doing anything like that again. Ski blacks, Im good with that, most double blacks blah blah. Anywhoo, just started doing jumps again last year and feeling okay at them, but kickers still scare the living shit out of me looking in perspective. What Im trying to ask is how should I really break my hesitancy toward this area of skiing and really get back into it? Itll just be so much fun if I can get back into it.

Well, here in Iowa I mainly go to Sundown. But it really just depends on the year out west. This year Im headin to Big Sky, last year was Aspen, year before was a few places at Utah haha.

You only live once man! Send it... Ive had my fair share of broken bones from skiing. Just got to over come yourself, you wont regret trying as much as youll regret pussy-ing out, if youre anything like me that is.

This is coming from a 20 year old who as broken multiple ribs, fingers, an ankle, my sternum, and a vertebrae, and various other joint related injuries all from skiing. For me, the fun I have pushing myself skiing greatly outweighs the consequences that come with that. I also like to think that I have learned from each injury. I know the feeling of being hesitant after an injury too... the first half of last season I was a huge pussy because I kept thinking about my season ender the year before... Just got to get back into it and get some confidence going, a lot of skiing is mental.

Basically, you're just going to have to send it. You built the mental blocks back up, and the only way to break them down again is to just do it. It's just like learning any part of skiing.

Seriously dude the best advice someone can give u on jumps is just go for it. its actually a lot easier the it looks. like cork 5s are easier than cork 3s

Awesome guys, thanks for the advice. This year Im just gonna throw it out there. Im more experienced at skiing now than I was back then, so I should have more confidence either way. Start off with a small kicker and Ill build from there.

ya defiantly hit some smaller kickers but just don't stop or anything just go for it, even if your just going start of the jump at least your hitting it and will progress from there after you get over your fear, but good luck bro. i just wouldn't try anything to big, until your ready for it.

Sundowns jumps are purrrrrrrrrrrrrfect. I live in the middle of des moines and the only "jump" we have is this little ditch thats like 3 feet tall.

Alright, just got back from being slightly intoxicated so sorry if I misspell anything. Anywhoo, yeah I think Sundown's jumps are pretty small and should be a good size. Honestly, once I move back home for the summer its Snowstar and theirs are even smaller so I know I can hit those.

It is so mental dude. Just you know, start hiting smal jumps just to gain confidence, progressively you'll feel better. Well I assume before all that you have a rather good technique and know how to jump and do tricks (even small ones). Yeah it's all about confidence. The first time I hit a kicker in my entire life I literally broke my upper left ribb, luckily it didn't pierce my left lung. However, the year after all I wanted was to hit that jump again and overcome the fact that jumps are dangerous but that I can beat them.. Think you're number 1, that nothing can make you fall as you have already experienced.

Damn, breaking my femur was on my to do list for this year, sounded like fun. Guess I gotta cross it off now.....

But seriously, get back into it. Progress from little kickers to bigger ones, you'll get comfortable after a little repetition.

This is my first year skiing, after snowboarding for soooo many years. I'm on the same boat as you, gonna have to progress fast to catch up with my freinds.
